Hi all,

We were out after blacktails last night when this bruin happened by our path. My buddy dropped it with one shot. It was dark after we gutted it and we had a three kilo drag to get it to the boat, so we went back this morning and got it out. My feet and back are telling me about it right now!!!

Should make some nice hams, and the grease will keep my boots nice and waterproof. I think he is between coats...losing the summer and getting ready for winter. A lot of the hairs pull out very easily.

I'll include a pic for all to enjoy!!!

If you guys noticed, there is nothing supporting the bear's head. Since we got there first thing this morning, he was in full rigor. So, we just rolled him into position, and he decided to 'pose' for us.

He has a really good head, and it will definitely be cleaned out for measuring. I don't think it'll earn a nice peice of paper, but still nice.

It was a .270 Win. (150 grain). He watched it for about fifteen minutes and popped it at forty yards.

It was pitchblack walking back to the boat, and we jumped another bear. It gave us a deep, long growl for about three seconds and scared the crap out of us. It was only about ten or fifteen feet away when it let us know it was there. The really scary part is that it didn't really run off, just got off the trail. We could hear it, but couldn't see any shapes.

I was feeling a little less than adequate as I was packing my compound for a nice buck. A bit of an eyeopener for packing a shotgun even when bowhunting in bear country.....yah, the flashlights were in the boat, too.

Nice bruin. A bit sobering about going back to the boat. Yikes!
