I'am no expert but I believe they help balance your bow and also absorb vibration. The most important thing is they make your bow look "cool" I guess that word dates me. You don't need a 3' long one on a hunting bow, keep it under a foot I would say. Cheers Roscoe

On the older bows, a stabilizer helped to absorb the shock when launching your arrow, as well in balancing the bow and allowing for a steadier aim, but the new 'past-parallel' limb bows are designed to neutralize that shock, making a stabilizer less needed, except for balancing. If you have a quiver with arrows mounted to a 'past-parallel' designed bow for hunting, you probably don't need a stabilizer.

for balance and Vibe absorbtion on older and more current lower end designs ....

Newer designs .... balance mostly ... and to hold your wrist sling in place

Roscoe's got it.

Older (usually older than 2006-ish) bows need them. Newer bows - not so much.

Low end new bows - most likely a stabilizer will benefit the "shootability" of the bow.
