I bought a little red “First Aid Kit” from Canadian Tire for about $10. The contents or the first aid kit are not particularly useful but it comes with the red zippered pouch (~5” x 4” x 2.5”). I sewed some elastic into the lids of the kit to hold stuff in place and filled it with:

A silver survival blanket
A plastic rain poncho
A foot or so of duct tape wrapped around a piece of cardboard
Snare wire
Single edged razor blade
Aluminum foil ~1’ square – folded (wrap around the cardboard from the duct tape and you have a signaling mirror + other uses)
Plain White writing paper 2 sheets
Assorted sewing needles
Small bic lighter
Picture hanging wire
Flagging tape rolled around a small pencil
Flint and steel
Mini swiss army knife
Assorted nails (~10) wrapped in tape
Dryer lint tightly wrapped in plastic wrap (tinder)
Compass
Pins (~10) wrapped in tape
Foldable multi tool:
Knife
Pliers
Small folding saw
Scissors etc…
Small spool of thread

Materials from first aid kit
After bite packets (x2)
Iodine ointment packets (x2)
Bandaids
Alcohol swabs (~10)
Large ~ 1” square bandages
Small compresses
First aid tips card
Tape
Gauze

I carry my hydropack wherever I go when im out hunting. Carries two knives, fresh water, a couple snacks, some cover scent and an extra pair of socks, and some extra bullets.

Worst thing that can happen - especially if you're alone, or separated from the guys, is a dis-abling sprain or break, or a cut. So pack accordingly.

Super glue and Peroxide for cuts. Needle and thread if you've got the cajones to do your own stitching. Man's best friend - duct tape for sprains or splinting a break.

After that it's Aspirin for the pain.

Electrical tape, dental floss, and whiskey. If I can't fix you with that, you are dead.

I would drop the Whiskey and add a bottle of Captain Morgans a curved needle and were good to go

My day pack always has...
small compass
fire starter
tinder (chemical)
6 Aluminum tent pegs
Pen / pencil
bandana
pocket fishing kit (fits in lozenge tin)
Couple of T bandages
Bandaids
Cord & twine
Multi tool
Extra knife (x2)
Pocket SAS survival guide (wrapped in plastic)
Something to eat (granola bars, choclate bars or similar everytime I go out)
Wind-proof lighter (tied in with lanyard)

That's the minimum, always in there, stowed away in the pockets and pouches.

A few bandaids, a compression bandage, a few Dilaudids (to allow me to walk out even on a broken leg, lol). On me I'll have a knife, a means to make fire, my rifle and ammo and my SPOT. If I can't survive a few days afield with this I better go back to basic training.

I use a regular straight needle for stitching clothes or skin. Then I only need to carry one. :)

I use a surplus German canteen filled with goodies:
- little bags of lint for firestarting
- poncho (make sure the poncho is rolled in a stick otherwise it won't come out of the canteen)
- candles
- sewing needles (wrapped in green thread)
- lighter wrapped in paracord
- fire-starter rod
- folding knife
- snare wire
- leather lace
- water treatment pills
- stomach pills and pepto-bismol
- whistle with small compass
- salt, pepper and sugar harvested form a name brand chain :)
- a couple of tea-bags
The canteen is aluminum and the 2 halves can be used to boil water.

Deck of cards. In an emergency, start dealing Solitaire and some one is bound to come along to tell you you are doing it wrong.

First aid gear is 1 trauma guaze, 1 cling wrap, 1 tape, 1 tensor bandage. Thats it, and im a paramedic, lol. I also bought the Bear Grylls Cheesey survival knife which will start fires and sharpen my knife. and a emerg blanket.
