Hi guys, still trying to get rid of my hunting virginity and I plan on going tonight locally. Since I will more likely be by myself, I was wondering how long it take for rigor mortis to set in. In a human, it's supposed to be around 3h, how long on a deer?

Thanks,

SG

Well I'm not an expert but I have watched a lot of CSI.... lol.. But seriously it depends on temp. Why? Sometimes they get stiff but I've never seen it like in the movies where they turn to stone, you can still move the joints it's just a little harder. Actually a little easier to move them when they are not so limp..

YUP all dependent on external temp, but size of body, clothing...even air circulation will help delay this porcedure..and there is the reverse procedure the leaving of Rigor mortis

YUP (altered from original quote)all dependent on internal temp, clothing...even circulation will help this procedure..and there is the reverse procedure the leaving of Rigor mortis For some the rigor mortise cycle happens all too fast.

From my experience 3 hours is about correct for a deer as well!

You know I work close to your house now. Maybe I should stop by one of these days and just have a good chat. Thanks for the offer. I'm really glad that my circle of knowledgeable people is growing. I feel half decent now.

Now I know why I stay off bow hunting forums, I always leave with the sound of banjos and squaling piggies in my head.

....have to go call my shrink now....
