Never mind the old, you can't eat the horns, ect.
what is your opinion on this deer, is he one that should be taken to improve the genetics, or should he be left alone for a few years to see what he grows into. He is high but not vey wide, his antlers are only the width of his ears.

Depends on how late it is in the season... nice buck regardless, really nice frame. If I didn't have one by November, maybe a bit earlier, I'd kill him.

Same hill as last years buck???
We both know, if you dont kill him quick, someone else in the neighborhood will!
He's nothing compared to yer last years buck, it would depend on your need for meat!
Myself, I hate 3x4 bucks no matter how big they are!

not far away, no need for meat, I'm probably not going to shoot this guy unless it's in december and I need meat.
I'm not a fan of 4 X 3's either

Take no advice from this man! He also doesn't like large "lopsided" Stone's sheep!! Not a sane man.

I live by a self imposed rule that I won't pass on a buck today that I will shoot later in the season. That way I never regret not pulling the trigger. However we have plenty of tags in the household and meat in the freezer is never an issue. That being said..... I would drop him Sept-Dec. But I am a lowly Island hunter lol.

Given that I don't care about big racks but am a meat-hunter if I found that while glassing I'd be shouldering my 30-06 and putting some meat in the freezer. :-)

I always think to myself you won't tag a BIG one if you weaken and tag an average one! That being said, the average ones usually eat just as good or better!

nice meat buck...

That buck looks like it's just entering its prime. Having said that, I'm not an expert on how horn dichotomy progresses/regresses from year to year. Can a buck that is a 3x4 one year fill that 4th missing point if you give him more years to do it? Or do we think that once a buck goes 3x4 it potentially will become a bigger and bigger 3x4 until it starts regressing? Either way, If you're not worried about the meat or someone else getting him, leave him. If he survives another year he'll be a better buck whether he fills that 2nd 4th point or not.

Quick take some new young hunter out and shoot that thing b4 he passes that shitty gene pool on again.
And after last years deer you shot, no comparison, hold out for a bigger one.

I have a son who'd be very happy with that buck for his first. Send me the coordinates and he'll remove him before he can pass those weak genes on.

He's just a baby and you aint gonna kill big ones if you kill little ones and the little ones arent gonna get big if you kill em when there legal; if your hunting meat go kill wht does

That is a young buck with some great potential. Just because he is a 3 on that side this year don't mean he's always going to be. If he can make it for a couple more years, you might be surprised at how big he will become.

I recognize that area, grew up in that vicinity. If I was hot after a deer, I think that I would re-visit my youth.
