I've been hiking around getting to know a new area and I keep bumping into deer but does only. I have found a few piles of these turds but I think they may be moose. Is it possible they are big buck turds? Opinions?

Without being able to feel and taste,,,, I'll go with NOT being deer.

Were they slightly 'coarse' and 'crunchy'???

Really? Is this a joke? Monster deer poop? Could you imagine if those were from a buck? You would hear their arse slam shut from 4 miles away if those were dropped by a buck lol.

Well, moose turds it is. Every area I have explored around Kamloops has moose in it it seems. Will need to pick up my immy bull tag for sure. Moose crap, small bucks and does are everywhere. Now if only I could find the big buck I am looking for.

I kept making the same mistake my first couple season {I kept thinking I'd see the grandaddy of all bucks } , I gotta agree that its moose .
So that just leaves one more question , why the hell can't we hunt moose in pemberton , I see more moose shit on an average day than I see deer sign .

I was pretty sure it wasn't deer turds but I am new to chasing big mulies and I know they get pretty big. I guess I will go take the tree stand down then.

As I crack up forever just at this entire sentence. LOL!

But yeah, moose crap. Even the biggest deer wouldn't leave nuggets that size.

In addition to confirming moose, I'd say they're quite old as well. You may be in winter/spring moose range, so I'd not be too overconfident with that immy tag. I tend to find a ton of moose sign around Kamloops in areas that are quite scant on moose during the immy season, but that do pack up a bit after that. If you're not at higher elevation, you might poke around at nearby high elev to see if you find fresher turds. The good news is that the local moose winter range is also great deer range, particularly in the later half of the season.

If you are already at high elev, keep looking for that big buck. They use much of the same summer range around Kamlooops. Unless you find a timbered spot littered with fresh deer poop, I's focus in or near cuts. Don't discredit cuts with heavy regeneration. Although they are harder to see into, they are animal magnets, presumably because of the cover the regen affords. Try to find older cuts where you can get a vantage that allows you to look down into the regen instead of through it. If you happen to shoot an animal in there, it can be frustratingly tough to locate it once you take your eyes off the spot where it dropped. If you have two guys, get one to stay back and guide you. If your by yourself, prepare to execute the "grid search"!

Moose nuggets.

The easy way to know if you are seeing a buck or doe turd is if they are loose like Glosset Raisins then its from a doe.
Now if it is from a buck you grab a hand full of Gosset Raisins and squeeze them until they start to melt together.
They are in a clump and thats what buck turds look like.

Good tips, thanks. There were a few piles around so the moose was hanging there for a while and it was at the very top of a local mountain. A long hike up but no deer turds anywhere to be found. Saw some does so the bucks have to be there somewhere. Now excuse me as I have go to wash my hands after looking at bear busters post.

Moose with the " BEADS", .......... ungulate talk for Die-aria .........

final dropping leave a little sting around the ring .......

OLD BULL, OVER 54", good front brows, small paddles though, not enough points on left side compared to right, penalties with BCCLUB. 175 - 180 tops.

Shouldn't be to hard to find, he's shittin_ with a limp to the left, likely related to the weak antler growth on the left palm.
