Hey guys, recently purchased a 30-06 bolt action which came with a 4x30mm on it. Anyways im looking at getting a new bushnell elite 3200 3-9x40 or possibly in 3-9x50 the only problem is when the bolt slides out there is little clearance between the bolt and scope as is. I know I can get bigger rings to raise the scope however I have never done this before, is there a limit to how high it can go without causing effects? For instance I don’t need a whole lot more clearness to fit a 40mm on it but would need a fair amount more for the 50mm.
Thanks in advance!

You don't want raise it higher than is comfortable for "you". The higher the mounts the more you have to raise your head off of the stock..which is not ideal.
50ml scope will also mean a longer scope which may also affect how the scope fits relative to your bolt....My suggestion...Keep it simple...stick with your 3x9x40.

50mm look kinda goofy, Id stick with the 40 and keep it as low as is comfortable

You can get scope rings with low, medium or high base, the medium most likely will clear a 50mm scope.
In my opinion a scope mounted too low is more of a problem than high in acquering a quick aim on the game.
But that's just me, others may disagree.

A 40mm scope in medium rings is what I've got mounted on my A-bolt. Lots of clearance and sights easily. If your buying the scope new, the store may well set you up. If not and your in the LML
I'd be willing to help. Timing would be the only issue!! as in ours LOL

Am i wrong here but your bolt should not be any were near the 40 or 50 ml end of you scope. lol maybe your scope is backwards lol. And aslong as there is a little clearence what more do you need

I can assure you its not on backwards. If it wasn’t an issue I wouldn’t have posted.

Leupold makes a 50mm with curved lens which lowers the scope. VX-3L
