Well it was finally time for my youngest child to go hunting for herself this year, as she turned 10 in the spring. Of my 3 children this one, is definately the hunter of the family... I can't even sneak out at 5:00am without her waking up and begging me to take her along.... Rain or snow, cold or hot, she's always game for the hunt... So this year it was her turn... spent quite a few days shooting gophers getting practised up this summer, and her shooting ability is in the sniper category... The weekend was planned, and we were off to a buddy's place for the weekend hunt. We had permission secured with a local farmer for saturday morning... Snuck into the fields well before shooting light arrived, and were in position glassing... Saw several deer, and quite a few smaller bucks... (she had already passed on 2 nice spikes previously) so we were hoping for something slightly larger. Had a nice 4x3 and a 3x3 sparring in front of us at about 75yds, and she decided to take the 4x3, only to have him dissappear before she could get the gun lined up on him... wait another 15 mins. and a buck comes from behind us, and starts heading for the timber across the field. She decides this is the one now, so we get her setup with the bi-pod and the deer stops at about a 125yds broadside, but just as she was about to take the shot the deer started running... it was practically out of range in my mind, and it stopped and looked back... Ranged at 334yds.. she said she had a good shot, and I told her to take him. Boom! smack! Buck down within 100yds.. She was very excited to have finally taken her own deer.. And I couldn't have been more proud of her patience, and excellent markmanship... So we now have another hunter in the woods for many years to come.. Gotta love that!

Yes... it was Matts 06... Thought it would be better, than the wood stock on the .308 But either way I'm sure the results would have been the same... You coming up this year Alex?

Congradulations to your daughter and a future little hunter. She looks so happy with her deer. I see she has the camo going on. Maybe for xmas get her some hunting boots. Ah forget that idea by next fall her feet will just be bigger anyways. By her some black runners instead.
You better watch out next she'll be saying move over Dad I am going to take that moose.

haha! Funny you should mention it... I bought her a pair of camo boots, and told her to wear them, but she forgot to put them on in the morning, as we travelled the evening prior with her shoes.. Maybe I just got to give those shoes a camo pattern with some spray paint... And I already told her, that if their is time for her to shoot, she can shoot all my tags! But I also told her if a legal bull(winter meat) is going to get away, or presents a not ideal shot, I will be doing the shooting... hehe! I never tagged anything last year either as my son did the shooting last fall.... Small price for me to pay for the kids to get involved in hunting.... I'd do the same for anyones kid as well.. Gotta love that youthfull excitement, makes me remeber when I was a kid out hunting... all those questions... and questions... haha!
