Its been a whirlwind summer. Here's some pictures of my and my wife's recent honeymoon to South Africa. We spent 3 days in Cape Town, 4 days on the border of Kruger Park on a photo safari and 7 days hunting in Mpumulanga (sp?) Province. It was a great trip and I was very happy to be able to hunt on our honeymoon (She's a great wife!).
Cape Town was gorgeous, unfortunately the weather was very windy and we weren't able to do a few things we wanted to, like cage diving. The photo safari was amazing and much more than I expected. We saw 4 of the big five and got very close to everything.
Hunting was interesting. In South Africa pretty much everything is private game reserves which isn't really my cup of tea I found out, but I'm glad I tried it. We mostly drove and spotted. I was able to take and Impala, Warthog, Springbok and a Zebra (the wife really wanted a skin). I also shot and wounded a Kudu bull which was a huge disappointment. The lodge we stayed in was way too good for us, we gained 10 lbs each at least. There's too much to share so I'll just post some pictures.
One thing it did remind me of is that there's no place I would rather hunt than my good old home province. We live in the greatest place on earth so remember that next time you've got a gripe about something that annoys you within our hunting system.
A big thanks to all the guys that shared their African experiences and advice with me before we left, it came in very handy.
When we returned I got out for an evening of bowhunting on Sumas Mtn and arrowed a blacktail buck meat buck and got a bigger rush off it than anything in Africa.
Happy hunting!
