Its been a whirlwind summer. Here's some pictures of my and my wife's recent honeymoon to South Africa. We spent 3 days in Cape Town, 4 days on the border of Kruger Park on a photo safari and 7 days hunting in Mpumulanga (sp?) Province. It was a great trip and I was very happy to be able to hunt on our honeymoon (She's a great wife!).
Cape Town was gorgeous, unfortunately the weather was very windy and we weren't able to do a few things we wanted to, like cage diving. The photo safari was amazing and much more than I expected. We saw 4 of the big five and got very close to everything.
Hunting was interesting. In South Africa pretty much everything is private game reserves which isn't really my cup of tea I found out, but I'm glad I tried it. We mostly drove and spotted. I was able to take and Impala, Warthog, Springbok and a Zebra (the wife really wanted a skin). I also shot and wounded a Kudu bull which was a huge disappointment. The lodge we stayed in was way too good for us, we gained 10 lbs each at least. There's too much to share so I'll just post some pictures.
One thing it did remind me of is that there's no place I would rather hunt than my good old home province. We live in the greatest place on earth so remember that next time you've got a gripe about something that annoys you within our hunting system.
A big thanks to all the guys that shared their African experiences and advice with me before we left, it came in very handy.

When we returned I got out for an evening of bowhunting on Sumas Mtn and arrowed a blacktail buck meat buck and got a bigger rush off it than anything in Africa.

Happy hunting!

Awesome picts, thanks for sharing

Was that male lion the killer or just the guardian of the dead "Kudo" (at least it looks like a dead Kudo)??

Nice buck by the way.

Cheers

The male lion had just killed the kudu bull. It was pretty cool!

My idea of a honeymoon. Good for you guys. I always tell people that hunting in RSA is collecting not hunting but if you like to stalk and pull the trigger a couple times a day... there's no place like it. That RSA food is pretty rich too. It's a wonder they aren't all 300# over there.

Congratulations on the honeymoon and the hunting. I am off to Africa in the spring. The wife originally wanted to come as she has always wanted to see Africa. However some plans have changed and she may not be able to go now. We are also going to a game reserve for a few days after the hunt. I was also thinking of cage diving but March is the worst month of the year for sighting. So not sure if we will add this to the trip or not.
