Feeling a little foggy this morning. Football and meat cutting - that is a tough day ahead.

Well we were going to go fishing for the day. Bruce and the boys wanted to go around 6 am from his house but I decided to be up there for first light. Almost nailed a coyote on the hwy in the dark on the way up (that scared the sh!t out of me).

Unloaded the quad and thought that I would poke around a few new blocks and see what is moving around. Went around the corner and got into a new block on my right that had a stand of trees in the middle of it. This was lined with numerous slash piles.

As I got closer to the stand of trees, I saw movement and instantly knew that it was a buck. I stopped the quad, turned it off, grabbed my rifle, loaded it and drew a bead on him. At this point, he was 260 yards away and heading directly away from me about 15 yards from the tree line.

I knew he was a good size but was not sure of the points yet. He quickly turned his head and I knew it was now or never as he would be gone in two more seconds. Four points stood out in my mind as I pulled the trigger.

He disappeared from my view and wondered if I had missed. After all, it was a very quick shot that was a fair distance away. I knew my Tikka T3 300 WSM was lined up for 200 yards so that was not a concern. It was the lack of time that bothered me as I walked up to where he entered the tree line.

I found blood almost immediately and he was only a few yards in.

Here are a couple pics of the bullet. It looks pretty uniform in the mushroom so was pleased to see that. Made a hell of a mes to his should. It was like pieces of popcorn when I was cleaning it up.
