This trip started on Aug 1 when I called my buddy and told him that I got my stone sheep and he called me an asshole and said what about me? lol I promised him that I would go with him if he wanted to go and I guaranteed him that he will get one.( I know how stupid - but thats the only thing that was going to cheer him up from what I could tell from his voice) A few weeks went by and we packed up for our trip and were on our way. We set up camp on the river and the next morning we were off to the chosen ravine to hike up the drainage and go after his sheep. All I could think was that by some miracle I needed to see some sheep or else I wasnt coming back out lol jk.
A few hours later and we were trying to pick out a camp spot, from where we were going to hunt from but we had no creeks close by and this was not looking good. however we set up camp anyways. There was still light left so we grabbed our gear and went for a look. We spotted 2 rams in the buck brush and every time we looked away we thought they had left. They were so camouflaged that they were in safe heaven. We took a few better looks and the rams were not leagal, so we went back to tent, and went to bed. Bright and early we were on our way, the plan was to go up and get on the ridge. As we were hiking I was thinking to myself why am I doing this? "I already went on one sheep hunt and got one" but when we stopped for a break I knew why. I could tell how pumped my buddy was and that was the push I needed to keep hiking. We were about 3/4 of the way up and I told my buddy "when we pop over the top that there will be a ram there" and he laughed. Last few steps and I looked ahead off me and there were two rams feeding. We took a minute to catch our breath and eat an energy bar. as I made sure the ram was legal we made a plan and we were off to close some distance. We set up at 430 yards and my buddy aimed - and fired. I seen the hit and told him to shoot again as the ram moved away a little bit, and the ram was down at 500 yards with the last shot. I looked over at my buddy and said there's your ram like I said just over the top hey. We laughed, cheered, hugged and ran over to him to take a million pictures, then the hike back to camp was full of sweat and smiles. The next day we headed back out this was a short quick trip but had a million miles off memories thats worth all the sweat and pain that we went through. It was awesome and cant wait for the next trip.

Sounds like a good trip sometimes things just fall into place. Nice looking ram nothing like heading in then out again. Good on you to plan a sheep trip with your buddy after you have already tagged out. Congratulations on a nice stone ram.

Hey yugo
I added them to 2011 stone sheep picture thread I was able to turn those sideways ones upright. That thread starts with your picture and now it ends with it. I hope to change that in a few weeks. lol good job on both sheep hunts a heck of a way to start your sheep hunting addiction.

Wow! Nice ram, congrats.

Looks like he got some great genetics passed down. The growth he's got at that age is exceptional.

I'll be putting up a post of my 74 year old dad's successful Dall sheep hunt that we recently returned from. The tough old f*cker has taught me a lot, including that it never really is too late...if you aren't a p*ssy that is :0)
