saw this on the net.......It happens every year: Deer seasons open, and rumors start zipping around the Internet about the latest record-breaking buck. Lots of these tales never check out, but here’s one that appears to have legs: A potential Pope & Young world-record nontypical muley was reportedly taken in Saskatchewan in early September. Canadian Cody Robbins, host of the “Live 2 Hunt” TV show and a longtime camera man for professional hunter and TV host Jim Shockey, arrowed the potential world-beater during the first week of September. Robbins could not be reached for comment and no official photos have been released. But two online hunting forums have reported green scores of 294 to 295, and a source close to the situation confirmed for Field & Stream that those score estimates are accurate. The current Pope & Young world record for nontypical mule deer is a 274 7/8-inch buck taken in 1987 in Morgan County, Colorado, by Kenneth Plank. Nothing is final, of course, until an official Pope & Young measurer puts a tape to the rack after the 60-day drying period passes. But a green score nearly 20 inches above the current world record certainly sets a high bar for the 2011 season—and makes the Saskatchewan muley a buck to watch

I heard that is in fact the buck. I guess his girlfriend posted it on her facebook page. It was removed an hour later but obviously someone copied it before it was removed.

Heck of a buck.

There have been 2 other P&Y World Record Contenders in the last few years both over 275 net with the velvet on. P&Y allows for velvet entries but they are not placed in the All-Time book and will not be declared official World Record unless the velvet is removed. The hunters of those other 2 bucks did not remove the velvet. One of those bucks was taken in CO and another in Sask. The Sask buck is actually shared by two hunters who both crawled in and released their arrows together. I would imagine that Cody Robins would probably know these 2 hunters. It would be a tough call to strip the velvet or to keep it. Fake velvet doesn't look near as pretty as the real stuff when the mount is on your wall. The buck that Cody killed is an absolute giant and I can't wait to see the footage when he finally puts it out. I'm sure he'll be on the cover of Big Buck yet again with some spectacular field photos as well.

Come on Jel, that question is even a stretch for you! A lot ofSaskatchewan is private farm land....big difference is no large fences surrounding the farms. If I am not mistaken...the Hanson buck was harvested on farm land.

Whether it was Cody, a client, or whomever, that is an outstanding mule deer and congrats to the person who shot it.

as long as its not trapped in high fence then it can be legit.

Don't ya love the internet and how people get the story mixed up super fast. Nope, not a Shockey kill. Non-residents are not allowed to hunt muleys in Sask. So nope, not a client's animal either as non-residents are not allowed to hunt muleys in Sask. Cody was indeed the one that killed it. There is no guiding for muleys in Sask, so this is a DIYer that done good. The vast majority of southern Sask is private land. Not much for public crown land in Sask. 99% of farmers let hunters hunt their land if they only knock on the door and ask. And yes, private land animals are eligable for the P&Y record book. A 3 strand barbarb wire fence doen't hold a muley in. As for score the 295 score is gross. He nets in the 280's green.

I'm sure he will keep all video rights for himself.

Copyrights ALWAYS belong to the person who created the video. Copyrights can be sold of course, but only silly or desperate for money people do that. Commonly copyrights are "granted", called publishing or broadcasting rights, to a company like Wild TV or the Outdoor Channel in return for a negotiated fee and a certain time frame.

Just because some hunters wait to release their pictures doesn't mean they are shopping for the most money a mag will offer. Cody is good friends with Gary Donald and the crew from Big Buck Magazine. They are actually a sponser for his show. And nope, they don't pay even close to the most for pictures and story, but you can bet the buck will grace that magazine before any other. And I'm sure you'll see the hunt for this brute on an upcoming episode of Live2Hunt, which airs on WildTV.

I'm wasn't trying to slag Cody in any way Dana. He makes his living from hunting and he is damn good at it. My poorly worded post earlier was simply designed to say that we won't be seeing any photos or videos of good quality until they are in a professional publication.

In P&Y they can score it with the velvet on. There is a set deduction to account for velvet in length and girth. But like I noted earlier, the P&Y velvet trophies only go into one printing of the book. They do not appear in the All-Time Book and if the velvet is left on, it will not be declared the New P&Y World Record.
