I have a Marlin 336BL open sights (30-30) and a Ruger M77 (30-06) optics.

I cant decide what rifle to take deer hunting this season... I may need the longer distance of the scoped Ruger for open ground, but the quick portability of the Marlin would be really handy in the bush, maybe tracking along a game trail.

I know, depends on the terrain. Areas MU8 and MU3 have a variety of ground to cover and I have decided to throw both rifles on the quad. No, I don't mean to carry two rifles.

Anyone else do this?

Always take two, you may trip hit the scope etc... and as I go for 1 to 2 weeks and camp out a trip back to fix something takes too long and wastes my hunting time.

When I go to our spots up the coq I only take one, but having either kid with me gives me a back up. If Dad gets to go with the boys then back up is taken. Between the three of us, there's always one spare in the truck.

Not on a day hunt. If it's a several day hunt, I like to have a extra rifle between a couple of hunters.

I have been known to take more then one rifle hunting yes. I always take a back up rifle, as well as a shotgun for grouse and don't for get to take the 22 for plinking around camp in the afternoon.

If I head up north I'll take my 30.06, it has iron sights as well as a scope in case anything happens to the scope.

Always take a back up gun on a trip. A day hunt, no! I don't take a second gun based on terrain or bush. Just a second in the event of a failure/breakdown

Always a spare one time caribou hunting while dragging out in the dark i did a face plant and bumped my scope to hell.

just went to camp and grabbed another gone was easyer than checking my scope in the area i was hunting.

it really depends .

one firearm each is normally enough (one centfire + one shot gun or rimfire etc) if its a longer trip then our respective centerfires and a shotgun .
may times we simply bring one rifle between us especially if with the hounds.

Road hunting days with friends or family, I bring one of my rifles, a shotgun and maybe my x-bow depending what season is open for what. If I plan on hiking alot then just one rifle, more than a week out means I'll probably be backpacking so only one rifle then too.

I hunt with the deer rifle. the .22 is in the back of the truck for grouse or whatever. Next trip i'm bringing a back up gun for the camp, if something happens to someones gun, its nice to not lose anything optimal hunting time and sight in when convienient.

Rem. 30:06 pump regular gun, 450 marlin lever backup gun, bow, 22, and either the 20g or the rem. 870. That is for anything more than a day trip. Better safe than sorry. I have been on more than one trip where someone forgot magazine, ammo, gun etc. I even had 2 different guys on different trips forget their boots, huntin' in runners with baggies over their socks, not very comfy.

i pack a little collapsable bolt .22 and shoot .22 shorts out of it just in case i see a grouse or rabbit doesnt make any noise, quieter than someone clapping and wont scare away big game.

always take two, I was on a hunt last yr and water got in the seal and made my 300 useless. I had no backup, this happened 7 days into a 14 day hunt. Now I take a backup for that reason

On long outings the 30/30 win always comes as back up, during Oct any buck season I sometimes alternate
and risk a day or two and make it the gun for a day (iron sights) sling it on my back and trudge along old style.

Sometimes two euro-guns is even better.

Especially when your hunting partner busts his toy gun and will pay cash to borrow your euro back-up. Ask me how I know!! :)
