View Full Version : looking for help with whitetails around castlegar.

been out a few times did some driving did some hiking around castlgar and have not found any deer. looking for a whitetail and have never hunted whitetail befor so not sure what kind of terrain or areas i am looking for. or which FSR i should try

Josh i know i see lots around Christina lake when there.Its only an hour away from castlegar. I have never hunted there , just vacationed.

Take Hwy 3 west towards christina lake....any side roads before Nancy Green lake will have deer....I like shields creek, almost right across the road from the lake.

And sheep creek. Lots of whiteys around and up in higher elevations where you would not think..Get yourself a BC backroads map and check out the roads..

Sheep creek is very good, just getting very grown up....

Pend D'Oreille. The brush in the old burn is chock full of whitetail. It gets a bit of traffic tho.

How about Bonanza ck?. Its not too far and used to be good..

used to have good luck behind the golf course.....but that was back in the 80's......probably all private with mansion now....

Also had good luck down towards Trail and the Pend D'Oreille.

Bonanza was good but don't see many whitetail in there very often anymore...lots of bears tho....the bombi summit Salmo side used to have lots of whiretails...

saw a cranker whitey last year at the bottom of the bombi ..in november

Rialto FSR later in the season.
Know a few people who have taken bucks off that powerline.

well thanxs for all the tips, have put many of mile on my boots and truck the past week, only to see one whitetail doe, 4 mulie does, 6 point elk, and 15 sheep. off again in a few minutes though.
