View Full Version : PG Salmon River/FSR Elk ?

It's that time again, and yes, I'm still trying to do things the hard way. My calling is getting better, but that's not saying much considering where it started. I've been out yesterday and today getting close to the river and calling. Has anyone been able to get call responses from elk in the Salmon River valley this year? Or does anyone have a idea of what part of the valley they might be in and care to share? I've got better rifle, optics, calls, and back pack than last year, so now there are less excuses. I will spend some time in 7-7 later when I have bigger chunks of time.

A report this morning from a friend I helped out: a herd of elk on the Salmon River bar. There's a lot of river to explore ;)

Reality is though its a crap shoot where those elk are on the river at any given time ... he lucked into a herd this morning and I'm sure he's arranged his work schedule to target them this week.

Bulls r screaming in pg right now , one less bull on the salmon river now ;)

herds on the salmon river,lol. im not sure why people tend to think there are elk all over around the salmon... walk anywhere along the river- they will leave trax and tell me if there are herds...

Finally, eyes on! Yes, the cows will bark like dogs. No, they won't take off right away. Yes, a bugle will bring them in a bit for a closer look. Yes, the bull will stand broadside, staring for a literal 5 minutes. Yes, I had a perfect rest for an ideal shot. Noooo, a three point...****! Anyway, better luck next time.:-D

The ones I saw yesterday weren't far from town, but I will be back out off the FSR for the next few trips.
