Went out for the first couple of hours as it was too stinking hot after 8:30am. When we got there the truck was saying 36 degrees and after we got a load of wood and was heading back at 11:30, it was already 78 degrees - CRAZY!!!!

Ran into a cow/calf moose, five muleys and threey whiteys. As I was walking back to my truck, ran into this guy right beside the road. I didn't see him until I was about 10 feet away and it scared the sh!t out of me as he was quite big and caught me offguard.

I have only seen a handful of the little buggars but this sucker looked pretty big to me. Sure glad the dog was not with me.

Yeah, at first glance I thought it was a fat cat on a putting green.
Thank God we have the Forest Practises Act.
Thx for the Porky pics.
I was out last night to take out the trash, and almost stepped on a skunk. It was feeding and completely ignored me. After 3 mins it perked up for a sec, then went back to feeding on something crunchy. The thing that alerted it was a huge fat raccoon. The raccoon came up behind me, and the two fed on either side of me, 4-5 feet away, neither one caring I was standing there.
When they'd left, I found cat food on the ground.
Some old lady is feeding feral cats, and now we're inundated with cats, skunks and raccoons.
Was kinda cool though.

They are cool to see they sure are not as common as they were 25 years ago. I see a couple a year now when back then you coud see dozens a year ( both alive and dead ) my dog got into one last year when we were shed hunting. I am pretty sure she won't try that again. lol

On a busy year we will move any where from 5-15 Porcupines out of resdential areas. They are perfectly harmless, no they do not throw their Quills, they have to make contact with you. In fact the tail motion is up not side to side. Easiest way is to herd them into a large grabage can using a broom or a rake. Make sure you secure the lid well they are very strong. You can pick these guys up with your bare hands if you know how and have the balls to do it....and No I am not going to post it up... if you are interested you can pm me and I will explain how

Here are a couple of shots from a friend's recent experience. It seems like the local restaurant was an outhouse for this critter.

Anyone know if we have hedge hogs out here ? My gut says no , but I have a co worker who claims to have seen some up here in whistler {at rainbow park } , but I wander if they weren't just little porcupines {don't know if they live in the mountains though } .

As far as I've ever heard, unless they were someone's pets released, no.. hedgehogs aren't indigenous to North America. They're from Africa and Europe as far as I can remember.

Haha, yeah thanks but no thanks. I will pass on that.

As a kid my Dad always told me stories of doing just that. One day we were hunting rabbits and I came across a porcupine and sure enough he picked it up :)

The porcupines must be on a come back because my son and I saw 3 the other day. The male porcupines must be brave little buggers to be doing the dirty with the lady porcupines.

what is the consensus regarding porcupines eating bark on trees, I was out in region 5-3 the other day and almost every other tree had some sort of bark damage lower down, torn into strips, that is from porcupines correct?
