I've look thru the regs but can't find any info if it is legal to bow hunt within the city limits.
I've talked to some hunters and they say yes, others say no.
Does the size of acreage matter ? Say...5 acres or more.
Please help...I've found a 6x7 mulie I would love to poke....with a arrow.

It depends on your city or municipality. It can be diffrent from community to community.

It depends on the municipality. I've heard that it is legal within Kelowna city limits - but don't rely on my information. I'm sure a call to the CO will clear things up - followed by a call to your buddy, Sean to come video tape it for you!

If I can get the OK....I want you to come. You will not believe where the buck and his friend are. Sooooo close IN the city.

Looks like a shotgun using shot can be used.

Yes, or a farmer protecting his crops.
I will call the MOE for confirmation tomorrow.

Let us know what you come up with, I also live in Kelowna and believe you are good to go. I know two individuals that have taken deer in a certain city park and I hunt my landlords orchard regularly. To control pest deer with a shotgun requires buckshot, letter from landowner of 5 acres +, insurance, and police clearance.

Be sure to check with City of Kelowna Bylaw/ Parks staff to confirm.

3.3 No person shall carry or discharge any firearms including air guns, air rifles, air pistols, spring guns, or any weapon of any description in a park, except as provided in Section 4.4 hereof.

If it's within "city limits" you are governed by that city's bylaws, by the hunting and trapping rules/regs, and whatever the CO says as well.

Contact them all. Find out for sure before you act.

Act in haste, repent in leisure..........

YOU GUYS STAY AWAY FROM MY BUCK !!! Grrrrrr

I finally got a call back from the CO and he said ...."no hunting within the city unless the animal is causing a problem".
I told the CO that "this deer was bugging the hell out of me and I can't sleep".
He said "I have not heard that one before".

As tempting as it is its just not worth the hassel bagging one of these city bucks.Kelowna is full of them. There are 4 muleys at the top of Clifton right now together[2 4 points and 2 3points]3nice ones in Casa loma[WFN land]Many in the vinyards below the 2003 fire.I have watched a monster 4point for the last 3yrs and his antlers are as big around as a baseball bat but he is in the city limits. If you were to get caught you could lose your hunting privalages, just not worth it.Your best bet is permission from a farmer on his land with a bow and tags of course

I said to the CO I would use my bow but he said no.
I could only hunt if he was causing a problem.
I must assume I would also need the land owners permission.
Too bad he is a nice buck, and easy to drag out to my truck.

I just thought of this for all us bow hunters.

The COs have contact phone numbers of orchard owners who have problems with deer and want them gone.
This seems to happen mainly in winter.
Give them a call...you never know until you try.

In Kelowna you may discharge archery equipment within city limits if it is on private land and you own the land or you have written permission from the land owner. Therefore yes you can discharge the bow and can legal hunt and take the deer with your bow, with tags, within hunting season. The only real risk you run is the deer ending up dead on someone else private property. If it is crown land in city limits the same rule applies.

Still may be a good idea to call it in just in case the situation turns bad and the deer takes off on you at least you did the right thing by inquiring.

As I said in the other thread, I called both bylaw offices and read the hunting regs from cover to cover. There is absolutely nothing illegal about bow hunting within city limits from ANYTHING I could gather.

The CO can say anything he wants, if there is no law against it, it is legal.

What is the point it's not hunting it's shooting. I lived in shawnigan were the blacktail big boys went to summer 4 large 4 points in one day, on my lawn, I have pictures. The deer had no fear of people you could kill them with a bat. It would be like going into a low river and hauling a 80lb spring out with your hands, big deal the greatest fisherman I guess. Hunting is about the hunt. I have no respect for someone that kills a pet deer. Wait till a car hits it then be the first to cut the horns off. Leave it alone.

Thats one of my biggest fears...shooting the deer only to see it die on the road and everyone see me drag it off.
Then they call the police, COs, news paper and the TV news.
I can just see the headlines..."local poacher shoots deer in city".
At least they would not call me a hunter.
