My wife's grandfather loaned me this for the hunting season. I don't know much about this knife; can anyone chime in?

Hoping it'll be a good companion to my Cutco drop-point hunting knife.

Only way to find out would be to get out there and field test it.

Looks like it would make a good skinning knife once you did the field dressing with your regular knife.

Bucks are real good knives, but, I own the exact knife as your other one and, wow, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I've been using my buck for 20 years as my main knife and have never been let down. I bring a hand held ceramic sharpener that I wear around my neck for touching it up during the skinning quartering process.

That knife in the picture sure has a small blade on it though.

Have 3 no 4 bucks the one you have its great for skinning and does the job on most everything else. I have the big "rosewood" handle bowie and its nice if you dont pack a hatchet but I find it a little cumbersome and a small "hunter" which is a good all round knife as well and the 4th is one of those old time wooden handle folding jobs from the 70s doesnt do anything well but Im always glad I have it when i just need a knife.

You'll grab the cutco every time. Once you see how much you have to sharpen the buck.

The key is not to loose the edge before touching it up with a stone. Pretty much the same with any knife that has a stainless blade.

had that exact knife for a while , not my favourite but defintely a qualty blade . Blade is very good for medium to large cutting , but I prefer a slightly smaller knife for light cutting.
I keep a buck 119 as a hiking , utility , pissoff knife so I do like buck knives especially for a large knife role , I just find most of their fix blades to be a bit bulky for light cutting .
Nice knives though , certainly good dollar value .
