The big 4 points we saw... and the kids didnt get shots at... were still in full velvet in our area as well. I have seen them as late as mid Sept in velvet. The big guys seem to lose it earlier, the little guys later on. Shot a 4 point on the 10th of Sept one year with pure white antlers, dry but must have just rubbed it off.

My daughter shot a two point on septmber 4 2009 with no velvet at all. I shot a 4 point in the same area September 20, 2008 that had lots of velvet left. I've seen batchelor groups up the Yalokom on the labor day weekend where half are rubbed off and half are not. There's likely no rhyme or reason to it. Just different timing for different bucks. Kinda like salmon in a river. Some are chrome while others are all colored up. One thing we know is eventually all of the bucks will rub their velvet off. Until deer get cell phones and Internet to be able to communicate with eachother I think they will continue to do their thing at different times.

it prob same reason why not all deer loose the antlers same day etc

I saw a little 2 point near the loops yesterday evening that was completely rubber off, then the buck I shot this morning was in full velvet

I have seen 7 small bucks this weekend and all were still in full velvet. What I was wondering was if the long cool spring and late summer we had this year could affect the time of antler growth and thus seeing bucks in velvet later? I also found it interesting that my opening weekend buck I got last year was still in full velvet while the other 3 bucks with him were completely rubbed off and dark already. Figured it must be genetics but who knows?

I think once it starts to itch and bug them they will rub it off. I think it's normal fir any buck to rub off their velvet anywhere from sept 1st to the 15th.
Every buck will be different

This morning the 6th between Vanderhoof and fort fraser there was at least a four point or better run across the road that still had velvet.By the time I stopped and grabbed the pentex he was out of sight.A real nice deer for some one.

It's nature, Jelly! The minute you think you've got it figured, it will throw another wrinkle at ya.

Both bull's we got in 5-1, yesterday and the evening before, both still had velvet. It was starting to rub, but it was still there. 4x5 my cousin got on Tuesday was bare and dark.

Ive seen deer around kamloops in full velvet around sept 20, and Ive also seen lots of bucks scraped and ready to go much earlier.
