View Full Version : Big archery buck down!!!

Just shot my first archery buck and biggest buck to date!
Sorry no pics till tonight, I'm gutting him right now I was just so excited I thought I would start a thread!
If you want to see a pic of him go to the summer muley thread and he's the big 4 point that I posted a pic from in July.
Couldn't have worked out better, I spotted him at 106 yrds feeding along an old skid road, I quickly looked with my binos and saw he was a 4 point. Luckily he was in a perfect spot that I could sneak up without being noticed and I got to 46 yrds. I drew back but he had his head turned scratching his ear it looked like so I had to wait a coue seconds till his antler was out of the way of his vitals.
The second his head turned I let an arrow go and saw I made a good shot, it all happened so fast. He only went about 50 yrds and dropped. He's by far the biggest buck that I've shot and is in all velvet!
It was the most excited I've ever been after shooting something, I can't believe I got the buck that I saw in the summer, I've been thinking about him an the spot since I saw him in July.
It is also the first day I have been able to get out and got him about 1/2 hour after leaving the truck on my hike.
It's my first archery buck and I shot him with my new APA pit viper that I bought this year.
Here are some pics... finally

Thanks Brad! No I wont be able to get a buck at my dads this year cause this was a region 5 buck. I figure its good not to get one there this year anyway, i'll let my dad get one this year out there haha. And this buck was no where near his place. It works out perfect cause now i have the whole season in region 3, so i can be picky!

Finally got to see the pic's and WOW ! GREAT BUCK ! and a BIG MULIE TABOOT ! With ARCHERY !

Congrats to you. I would assume Mulies must be tougher to take with archery then Whitetail as you can't really pattern Mulies. Although some do become predictable.

I hope your getting him done in Velvet, what was his height and width??

Thanks

I actually just got the euro mount back for Christmas, I'm very happy with how it turned out, I'll post a couple pics of it in a few days. I just rough scored it myself and came up with 184 gross and then about 10" in deductions for a net of about 173

Buck of a lifetime forsure :) this has got me pumped me up for next bow season :D Btw how do you like apa bows? would you recommend one for a beginnner? I'm new to archery and just want to ask around a bit before i purcase a bow. Take care-

How did you conserve that velvet so nice?

i got a taxidermist to do it so that i didn't ruin it, he said he freeze dried it for a few weeks before he boiled it and just had it wrapped and taped up really well with plastic bags and ceran wrap while he boiled it
