Hi. Il get straight to the point.
If a deer grows a set of non-typical antlers, will it always grow non typical antlers? Or will it grow typical some years? and vice versa: Can a typical grow a Non-typ set the next year?

if a deer recieves an injury that can affect antler growth so may cause a typical to grow a set of non-typical antlers one year.

My understanding is that the older a buck gets the more he tends to grow more non-typical points. From pictures I seen where guys have found sheds of a buck over the bucks lifetime, the antlers tends to look similar each year with more non-typical points a possibility as the deer ages. I don't think you'll find a buck with typical antlers one year and very non-typical the next year that don't look anything like the previous year, and then switch back to typical.
Bucks can trash out as they age and they can also clean up and loose trash as well. The mainframe structure is what pretty much stays the same. Here is a buck I had the joy of filming for numerous years.

Here's another buck that I was fortunate to watch grow up and then harvest. His mainframe structure stayed pretty much the same his whole life.
