I have been doing a fair bit of fishing on the Campbell River and have been making my own flies, so far i have had some good success with them. I have been making them on #6 dry fly hooks, i also seem to lose a large number of pinks, i don't think setting the hook is a big issue here, nor is foul hooking, but when i loose them, we usually have a good couple minute battle on average then just out of nowhere, i lose them, when i look around i see plenty of people that get a fish on and just reel with a larger hook, like good sized spoon hook, they don't let the fish run or nothing, and they seem to land them more often then me, so i started to wonder if my fly's are too small. I reading a article stating to use hook sizes 6 - 2, i wonder if i should go bigger?

6 is usually pretty good. I know Pink comets and beacboys have been solid in the squamish river

JR

I fish with size 1 and 2's, the bigger hook bites deeper into the mouth. You also have to remember, humpies have soft mouths and as the battle goes on, the hole in their mouth can get larger or the hook will tear out.

Sounds like you are having a lot of fun!!!

Keeping any for the smoker, canner or BBQ??

Good luck

Cheers

How do the large fly's cast on a fly rod? are they really hard to false cast with?

Once you get used to them you might like chuckin the extra weight, just keep your leader short
