I am only out for a day headed back in tomorrow the wolves kept me a wake from 1am till 730am in my camp.

I called the pack of wolves in and have video coverage as it unfolded there are 14 video clips that will follow up on this thread as soon as I get them loaded ,it was scary but thrilling doing what I did to call the first wolf in 14 yards from me in my camp ,I also have some good trail cam pictures to post up on my 2011 trail cam thread ,latter :)..

Very interesting, Wayne, you've got some great footage....just out of curiosity, what would have been your reaction if someone had crept up behind you and poked you in the back with a stick?....other than change your shorts, I mean. Wolves are very curious animals, and will come in close if they think there's no threat, or that they are in control. My bicycling buddy and I were serenaded while tenting over night along the Alaskan Hwy, and in the morning, had one watch us from about 40-50 yards while we packed to leave.

You are a brave ladd Wayne. I had a buddy that was surrounded by wolves, as two kept his interest from the front. They are good hunters and can be sneeky! They seem to be breeding everywhere this year.

exciting stuff Wayne
It looks like your having fun out there. I don't think you have much to worry about with safety your howl sounded more haunting than theirs did lol. Our little house dog ran across the floor and landed on my lap shaking when she heard you. It was pretty funny the redbone didn't even wake up lol.
Enjoy your time out there and I will talk to you later

Great footage and experience, thanks for sharing. I often head up moose hunting a few days ahead of the other guys so I set up camp and scout around. I was up near Red Fern lake and saw lots of tracks, but did not see them until the night the other two guys got there, and the wolves were all around our camping howling for a couple hours, a very erie sound.Good thing it did not happen when I was alone I would not have slept well in the tent those nights lol. I have called in Coyotes at night right into camp, but not wolves, very cool and spooky sounds

Jeez Wayne. That is intense. I hope we don't end up reading about you in the paper. Man don't get me wrong I know you are experienced and know what you are doing but that is playing with fire.

Having said that it looked really fun. Thanks a million for sharing your videos

I agree it seams that I am enjoying filming wildlife more every year rather then shooting them if I where to have shot the first wolf in this clip that I saw I would have not got more footage it would have been all over with with less footage.....

That was unreal. Keep shooting them with a camera, gun, or both.

If you get another chance Wayne you should shoot one. Keep the hide and then put a trail cam at the carcass site you might get some great pictures of them eating. You may also be able to shoot a couple more to get your limit on them.

Wayne did the right thing by not cracking cap at those wolves - the season doesn't open until Sept 10. Those urging him to shoot better read up on their regs.

In region 4 you can shoot wolves in the Caribou closure areas all year round and below 1100 meters in the trench....maybe we'll get a no closed season like region 5 one day...?????

Wayne, that is amazing footage, thank you for posting. I think after a couple more years of you being in the bush, your adventures, videos and posts will be become a story on par with Dick Preonekke, Chris Czajkowski and other that sought the freedom of extended stays in the bush. Perhaps it is time to keep a journal.
To echo others, look after yourself and stay safe Wayne. We don't want your story to become a cult classic because of losing you to the wilds.

Good Luck this year Wayne!

Wayne, Thanks for sharing the videos. It is very neat experience to be able to call them into your camp area and to get video as well. You do have to watch your six tho, while you may be fixated on the visible ones, one or two others may circle to check the wind sp to speak.

Thanks again, look forward to more.
