We are thinking of doing a week long trip to Region 8 this October as it looks like we would have reasonable opportunity at mulies, whitetail, 6 point elk and even turkey.
I guess my questions are:

1. what is the hunting pressure like in that MU. (does it depend on where you go)

2. What is the access like?

3. We are thinking NE of Vernon potentially.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We are having a meeting of the minds next week so going in with info would be great.

NE of Vernon like past cherryville on the edge of region 4 has good potential for those animal except no turkeys. If you head past the kettle the hunting pressure declined quite a bit.

What do you mean by past the kettle? Kettle valley?

There are NONE of those animals up here in Region 8, I would highly recommend just continuing on to the Kootenays:mrgreen:

Haha bunch of jokers. But seriously there isn't a huge elk pop but if you find them there's some dandys and as for deer, both kinds can be found out there in good numbers. And don't forget a moose tag because theres always a chance of a mrforky out there.

its not the best region for deer elk or moose, I don't know the area you are thinking of going to so I cant give you any advice, there are some great spots but it takes years to find them, but you can come here and the wife can shop while you hunt.

region 8 doesn't have tht good of elk pop compare to region 4. the area you are refering to gets a ton of pressure. and probably will get much more come the Doe season in October.

All you will see in 8 is hunters, it's rediculous. Kelowna is so overpopulated these days it's silly. Even way off the path you still get people the last couple of years. You park yourself where you can see a road and a truck crawls by every 2 min......

Nothing here but quail and rattle snakes, 3 cities in one valley makes for lots of pressure!

And the deer are all small antlered beasts

Yeah way to much pressure up here on the animals there has been more n more hunters the last few years n the population has been pushed WAY back into the thick shit. Like the one guy said sit on the edge of a road n you will loose count of the number of trucks you see going by.

fireguy
08-27-2011, 12:11 AM
Funny thing though, where I hunt I rarely see anyone, I guess it all depends on how close you are to the road. If you can count the trucks passing by you might be to close.

Yup, a few quail and a few small nocturnal deer...and snowshoe hares higher up...and I've bagged a few
cougars as well but that was at the Ok Corral. Go north or to the East Koots for sure!

LOL Well thanks to those who answered honestly. I figured I wuld receive alot of answers from guys that live in those areas telling me there is nothing around and to many people. We like to have a base camp and then get well off of the road into the bush. So I am not worried about seeing other people. Road hunters we are not. WEe will defiantely get a couple of moose tags in case the odd fork trots by or we call him in.
thanks to those that answered.

Honestly there is the animals here if you know the places to find them but you will be sure to find hunters anywhere you go. If you see a red n silver square body style dodge ram with a black headache rack between Osoyoos, Oliver or rock creek that's me. Best place is as far back in the bush as you can get.

There's lots of animals and lots of hunters. I don't know the area you are going to, I hunt east and south of Kelowna, but I will tell you that wherever you go it will be busy. Good hunting!

You drive through region 8, say on the Hope Princeton, and there's dead Deer all over the highways.... it would appear they are there. Rumour has it region 8 even has Wolves, however theres no open season in that region.

WRONG. There are only dead deer in Region 8 as evidenced by the carnage on the highways. ;)
You need to bypass Region 8 if you want live deer.

Nah, if your carefull there's lost of places you could still walk fifty miles without seeing any sign of human activity. If your not careful, you'll see evidence from the previous times you walked that circle.
