Jelvis,
You are SOL if you think that they haven't started rubbing yet. I've seen bone as early as the last week of Aug and have seen them still with velvet as late as the 15th. Most rubbing happens right now. I've sat and watched many bucks over the years rub this week.

I'm watching them rub on the scrub above treeline. Sit back behind the spotter some time and watch. It is quite facinating to observe. Some little bucks really go to town thinking they are King $hit. :) :)

I'm seeing quite a few already rubbed. Watched a little 2 point giver tonight trying to rid himself of it.

Went out for about a 3 hour drive last Friday, we weren't really looking for sign, just checking some fence and cattle. Noticed from the truck about a dozen fresh rubs, they were located where we see probably 95% Mulies vs. 5% Whitey's. Mainly rubbing on Saskatoon's, Alders or Poplars.

Take a peek at my thread "Awesome evening bowhunt" on the V.I forums. Twice I've seen bucks with bush and grass hanging in their head gear, pretty cool to see!

I saw about 5 bucks in the last week while goat hunting. Not a single one had any velvet, region 3.

I killed a 3 point mulie years ago on Sept. 10 and it still had velvet. My dada also has taken a few bucks the first few days of the gun season (sept. 10) and they have had velvet.

That said I have also seen shiney bone on Sept. 1.

Once saw a whitetail with velvet on November 8.

Here's a couple of Blacktails on the Sept. 1/03 taken with a crossbow.Notice how the mature deer has rubbed off and rid of his summer coat. I beleive maturity plays a majour roll.

i was sitting at this computer checking out this site at five am onmonday ,yesterday and had to go out on my deck to check out the action, two bachelor blacktails pushing head and banging antlers lightly. i too have seen bone in as early as first week of aug. seen rubs as early as now and have watched a buck rubbing of his velvet once, they seem to prefer to take velvet off on scrubby bushs. most of this action in my yard until this year, had to fence . good luck to you all gotta love this sight.

Anybody know the first day the bucks will rub on a bush or small tree?
Mule deers around the southern interior by Ashcroft to Clearwater.
Take a guess and win a Prize. If your close or right freakin on YOU get a Prize -- a one time PM answer -- on a big buck spot in the Nor river valley.
Jelly

how you gonna know the 'luckee-guy" is tellin you the truth? :???:

and besides, who the hell cares what day some dumb buck decides his velvet

needs a SCRATCH?

It could be the 25 Aug in order to rid the velvet off his antlers.

if you guys think that the deer are already rubbing in early july your mistaken. I have seen many bucks already around here and they are still a ways away from having fully developed antlers, and until that happens they won't start rubbing. Im in Kamloops

rolled the bones, read the tea leaves and called a psychic, none of them gave the same answer. dart board method reveals that indeed the 4th of sept will see the first Kamloops area mulie thrashin brush to be rid of that itchy velvet.

Ok it's getting to be serious hunters of the antlered deer family especially the muley kind -- there's no other kienz -- lol -- Augustis the 3rd -- folks -- BC Day -- happy birthday BC -- now it's time to be prescouting for that antlered giant -- muley buck -- he's there on the ridges and the rock bluffs --
little ridges that run out into a finger looking over his domain --
I say Aug 27 th for some big guns -- and on til sept 14th --
Moose ready a little earlier they start battling in September already and into October 20th or so. Mule all full velvet by mid august then turn off blood feed to antlers and it drys off and wrinkles and strips like bark on a dead limb -- they even look like branches -- lol -- takes 24 hours or so til it's rubbed off -- getting excited - hard antlers - polished - browned - shiny -
Jel -- hot out there now so in the shade in the wind -- looking -- rubbed tree ?

Your real close jel ,but I have to disagree with you ,they will start rubbing on Aug 26 .

Last night.

Too funny

Neighbour has 3 new willow type trees.
Deer have nibbled the 2 end trees untill they are branchless been poles, everytime a twig grows back it is gone the next morning.
The tree in the middle has been alowed to grow a lush 3 foot bloom.
This morning I pulled out of the driveway and chuckled to see that the tree in the middle still has its bloom, BUT NO BARK.

Glen the boy brought home a flu and I got it good. last few weeks it's been through the house and I've missed work and pissed of clients from here to china now so we ain't had a good start...sleeping in on a rainy morning seemed the best option.
Maybe go look this afternoon.
