What is everyone using for a hunting arrow set up and how much does it weigh?

I've been using:

65lbs @ 29" draw
Pse Radial x-weave 300
100 grn standard slick tricks with magnum blades
2" blazers
Total weight- 386 grains and 13.7% FOC

Looking into a new set up and moving up to about 425 grains for a bit more punch.

VAP Arrows Cut to 27" inc insert
350 spine with 100 gr Meat Seeker mechanical broadhead
Offset Blazer vanes and Bohning Nocks
Total weight is 360 gr

Bow #1:
APA King Cobra @70# and 27.5" dl
Arrow speed is going to be 328 fps

Bow#2:
PSE Axe 6 at 60# - Haven't chronoed these yet

I initially wanted a heavier arrow than the 380 gr Victory V3, but the VAPs are faster and more deliver speed and way more penetration at the target. I'll give them a try.

What the heck kinda bow do yo shoot? 100lbs @ 32"draw or something.
384fps is moving. I can't even do that with a tricked out Omen and ultra light arrows.

Figured I'd get some response like that, I shoot a barnett predator crossbow.

Oh, I see. Crossbows throw bolts.
I'll bite my tongue on my views about crossbows.

You say that now but just wait till you are old enough that you can't pull a bow back. I used to think the same till I saw some of my older friends out with crossbows.

And my arrows are 28" Easton fmj 400s. Fusion zeon vanes, nockturnal nocks and 100gr montecs. Come out to 440gr. And they are powered by my 70lb Hoyt Katera at 300fps

I never said I was against them. They have their place for sure. I bought my father-in-law one after he recked his shoulder and elbow at work a few years ago. He used it but didn't like it, after he got his surgery and physio the crossbow never saw the light of day again.

I just think that crossbows like the muzzle loaders are evolving so fast i'm not sure they belong in the archery season.
I mean you can get CO2 cocking crossbows and ones that mount on to AR rifle platforms.

Anyways this subject has been beat to death before.

? Seems a bit shy on weight...

5 grains X 63 lbs = 315 grain arrow weight for the bow. Your stated arrow weight of 290 grains just seems a tad too light. Is there a bit more noise (more so than normal) when you shoot?

Hey Bow Walker, no extra noise at all. my bow is as quiet as a church mouse. Very stiff spined shaft. Before Victory took me on I was shooting the High Country Speed Pro Maxx 6.2's. They where even lighter yet, but very fragile. I'm getting awesome results with my Victory setup. Love it! I pretty much can shoot one pin out to 40 yards and be confident.

Through my Mathews DXT 70/27 I shoot a 425 grain arrow if I remember correctly. Right now I shoot Grim Reaper and G5 broadheads with some good succes. I get about 280 fps or so.

Tried my buddies Invasion CPX. 60/29 and I was pinwheeling arrows are 20 yards, simply blown away and at 60 I get the same speed as my DXT at 70 for the same ease of draw and similar back wall.

I was just a bit concerned for the bow and its integrity - not to mention your safety. Shooting an arrow that is too light can ruin a good day in a heckova hurry, as you no doubt already know.

if it works for you then all is good. Good luck out there this season...

28" axis 340s
50gr brass break off insert
tiger pink/white blazers 3 deg
nap hellrazors
60 lb gt 500
i have definitly found a more consistency with the higher foc with the brass, it seems to make it harder for the fixed blades to pull the arrow around if you happen to influence the flight on release
