dropped my first wolf today while out looking for an early morning moose, we had been walking for about an hour and camp into a hay field, we had been seeing lots of wolf sign show up in the last few years in one of our favorite spots. as we were glasing the far side of the field and the log slash above we noticed a wolf making his way across feild about 45 yards in front of us....moose hunt on hold...up comes the 308 and a 165gr accubond is on its way, the wolf vanished, did I miss, a quick walk to the spot I had shot at him and there he laid. he was a scrapper had scares and wounds all over...moose hunt back on. as I walked back to truck I looked towards lease where we had seen cow calf at day break, low and behold there was my bull, and right behind him was a lease site shack and riser pipe....no way I am gonna pull trigger. back to camp to deal with wolf and rest up for evening hunt. I decided to road hunt as I had the wife and 3 lil ones with me, not seeing much all night we headed for camp, ok 1 last road check, and there was a bull. yet again the 308 barked, moose made it about 60 yards and was done, freaking awsome day.

Way to go! Ya gotta love that .308. (See youse guys? I'm trying to tell ya all the time--LOL) Wolf's teeth indicate he's still in fair shape. Haven't seen one with the short summer hair like that one.

Sweet, now you have me twitching to get out bigtime. This time of the year all I can think about is gettig to the cabin. 2 years in a row now I have missed wolves minutes from my cabin door (last years wolf was running zig zag across a cut until he hit forest)

Anyways hopefully this year I get myself one of them!

hide was really rough, he was a scrapper, had quiet afew cuts and scares. But I am getting the skull done. I also sealed my permission for good on the peice of land we were hunting and opend up all the rest of his land for me, he asked me why I would shoot a wolf during prime morning moose hunt, and I asked him who would pass up a wolf at 40-45yards in prime moose and elk turf. also took a big ol blacky last night...triple header.

the value/quality of the pelt is nil at this time of year,,,,as for eating it ?? really, are you serious?? oh well, nothing like a BIG pot of Hydatid Stew :?

with NO closed season under 1100 meters, and a limit of 3 per yer, and wolf numbers exploding across the province, several areas with threatened species because of wolf over predation,

probably the single best reason to shoot wolves is simply "shoot them just because you CAN "
