I was out doing some pre season scouting in region 3 and saw a spike fork moose in a certain area. Looked like two long forks on each side. Wondering if this animal would likely remain a spike fork or have some new growth by the time Oct season comes for spike forks??
Wondering if anyone could provide some insight. Thanks.

When were you scouting? If it was within a week he won't be growing that much more but may grow and extra lil point. A few weeks the velvet will be coming off. Be easier to tell with a pic. How long were the forks?

his forks may grow a bit longer in the next couple of weeks, but this late in summer, he wont palmate or develope any significant more antler mass,,,

The Provider - I glassed him from a ways away but the two forks on each side seemed about at least 6 inches per tine. I saw him last week. I know the area and will look around come the season. It was a very obvious spiked fork even from a distance. Would be nice if he remains that way until we meet again.

Well I'd bet my breeches that he stays a fork, he won't palmate like elkdom said. It's late in the season for antler growth. Won't be long and people will start seeing velvet shed bucks and bulls. Hopefully you'll meet up with him again

I've taken spikes from 1" forks to 8" forks. Too late in the growth to have anymore. Have a very good look as I have seen the larger ones with stickers out the front making it a 3x3

He is finished growing the antler he will have this year, now he will shed the velvet and start his first rut.

Tell me where he is, and I'll check him out for you.

As Caveman suggests, beware of that front browtine that is difficult to spot when they are looking your way. Wait 'til he turns his head just to be sure.
