Well this hunt started like all the rest is was planned as soon as last years ended. This year i had a family member tell me about an area he guided in about 20yrs ago. So july 27 at 5am we left fort st john we drove awhile and unloaded pauls new alicraft boat in a little creek and boated for quite awhile. After we tied up the boat and got our gear ready we hiked until dark setup the tent had supper and went to bed. The next morning we hiked another 2 hours and came to rest in a mountain medow we started glassing and in about 5 min i spotted the first ram of the trip Paul quickly found another ram and we found about 6 in total none legal so we setup the tent and found a stream for water. The next day july 29 we hiked into a basin just north of our tent and quickly found 2 rams niether legal. Paul spotted rams at the other end of the basin so over the coarse of the day we got to within 600 yrds of them and were pretty sure one was legal. That night we had 5 new rams above our tent none legal. The next morning we hiked a mountain to the south of our tent, we found 2 rams at about the same time they found us one was close to legel but they took off so we started glassing i quickly found a band of 9 rams and at almost the same time paul found a band of 8 rams in the band i found 2 looked like very good rams and one in the band paul spotted looked like a hog from about a mile and a half you could see bases that looked like bighorns. So we hurried off the mountain we were on just to get to the tent when the rain started we waited out the rain and hiked a mountian closer to the rams we saw earlier we found the band of 9 but not the band of 8 so we watched for awhile then returned to camp. I believe this brings us to july 31 we slept in a bit and as paul got out of the tent he was greeted by 2 hunters that hadnt even seen our tent. so we told them where we wanted to hunt opening morning and told them about the rams in the far valley so off they went. We hiked back into our basin and couldnt find the rams from 2 days ago we were getting frustated with the 70mph winds and no sheep so when it started to rain we headed for our tent, we were soaked by the time we got therelater that night the rain stopped so we were able to dry our gear. Opening morning we woke up early to rain so we stayed in the tent for a little while till the rain stopped we hike back into our basin and double timed it up the mountain as we climbed over the edge to look into a drainage paul spotted the rams and at the same time 2 hunters sneeking in the back side stalking these rams. We decided to move toward the top of the mountain so if the rams spooked they should run right by us. Well the spooked and ran down the mountain across the shale slide and into the trees right below where we just came from. We ran back around the mountain adn after a couple hours were right on top of them but could only see bases milling around in the trees.we notice a ram to our left about 70 yrds and he had us pegged meanwhile the rams were after got up and moved back into the shale below the trees and across the valley to the rocks perfect only 250 yrds straight across but no big guy. the ram to our left made his way over to us and stopped about 5-10 yrdss away he wasnt quite legal. So we stasrted making outr way into the trees to find the big guy as i rounded a little tree i spotted a banna horn looking at me i quickly made my way to a little knoll and there was the big guy looking at me as he swung around to take off i shot, he ran off i thought my new christensen arms 7mm and huskamaw scope or me had missed, but he rounded a rock and fell down the shale slide. after we gotour packs and butchered the ram we hiked 3 hrs back to our tent loaded the rest of our gear and hiked 1 more hr to the outfitters cabins that thankfully nobody was at we had a good sleep in the cabins adn the next day made out way to the boat then home. The ram had 15 1/8" bases and was 39 " long he was only 7.5 yrs old i thought he was 8.5 he green scored 168 5/8 so to me that perfect for my first ram and now im a pack horse until paul get his first stone.

The mount is called a wall pedistal mount so it mounts to the wall but shows more shoulder and because hes heavy his head will be turned slightly to the right

Great ram!! One of the better ones ive seen so far this year. And like others have stated there is now such thing as a long winded sheep story!
And he started his life as a sheep the same year you started looking for him which is kinda cool.

That should be a great mount for a great ram. Good job on getting a book ram. Have you decided who is doing your mount for you. I am looking forward to the seeing the results.

I just finished reading the rest of this thread and it's pretty obvious that the slammers haven't hunted much, they probably couldn't drag their sorry asses up there in the first place so I sure as hell wouldn't take much of what they say to heart. Beauty Ram you guys got, congrats! K

Wow, what a great ram! And your first? Super awesome.
My buddy just texted me and wants to leave Thurs for a fly-in Elk and sheep hunt.............I hate him. :P
I have this whole 'work' thang goin on.
Glad someone's livin' the dream!

(Just a bit of constructive criticism: You might wanna hit the 'Return" key now and then. makes a story reallllly hard to read with no breaks. Just a thought)

That is a very nice ram. As you said, the bases do look like bighorn. Little hard to read the story, but it was good nevertheless. Thanks for posting.
