wohoo!! Let the flossing begin!

I guess I better hit the river before it turns into a gong show. Any reports on how the springs are doing on the Fraser in the valley?

Tests show lots of springs in the river, however the water is still really high. Bars I was fishing this time last year are still under 5 ft of water

Vertically, or just down the beach?

There is a ton of socks up here on the North island, but DFO, in there bewildering wisdom, have only allowed the bottom 4 units in area 12 to be open, not the rest of it. This will mean a bunch of non coastal boaters with or with out their magic boaters card trying to fish socks in a 5 knot current with cruise ships, tugs w/barges or booms, yanks w/ their newly acquired yacht and all the non legislated Robson Bight stuff. It would be fun to watch except it will be down right scary as they all jockey for the right place to catch fish and dodge other larger boats. There is a ton of springs around as well, so I might stay close to home tomorrow and fish humpies and springs and leave the gong show alone......

Hopefully they open it up to all of area 12.

Cheers

Might not be too productive if they do open it on the weekend. Just heard there is a 3 hour gill net opening on Thursday to clean them out before the Sporties get their kick at the can.

3 hour opening won't do anything they are lucky if they get 2 drift's in

There's still nothing on the DFO site about any openings in the non-tidal waters (above Mission bridge). I suspect an announcement is imminent based on previous years - but expect the opening to either start Saturday or Sunday. It's tough making plans at the stage.

I beg to differ. Any opening slows the fishing for two days.

Yup! I you're fishing a spot and getting a few then it shuts off, move upriver.

If it was 12 hrs i would say yes but 3 hrs no that's why the opening's were so close together plus a sh't load of fish last year.My dad got his fish every day last year with in 1/2 hr up at the jones lake exit 3hrs hardly puts a dent in it plus the river is big right now lots more room for the fish to go imo.

I doubt that there will be a spot away from the crowds for very long, especially with the limited amount of bars showing. We will probaly be out there as well.

What are the chances of catching them on zingers or buzz bombs down below the boundary bridge? There's lots of river and it's easier on my time and my props LOL!

That's a good question. The family and I were down at the Albion wharf last night. My son wanted to fish for pinks. While there we did see one Sockeye jumping not far off shore. It made me wonder if anyone has ever had any success fishing for them with spinners, buzz bombs, or spoons. I have never heard of it. Pinks yes, Sockeye no. Last year might have been a better year to experiment with the large number of fish that returned.

I'm going to give it a try tomorrow morning, but I think the 'gong' is ringing already.

The notice says it's open until a decision is made at the panel meeting so it's open until at least Monday night. There's another gillnet opening on Tuesday. K
