I was surprised to see a drake pintail in the mix too. The bill and the white chest made him stand out from the sea of brown mallards.

Something got this mallard, either coyote or bred of prey.

Young woodie that couldnt fly yet trying its best to hide in the flooded grass.

Ya the wet spring sure gave good breeding grounds. I have never seen so many local young geese or ducks at this time of year before. Hunting should be good this year right when the corn is cut!

The birds are starting to show up on the sloughs here as the water drops.I saw mallards,gadwall and some widgeon today.All the drakes are still in moult. Gunner

that's a bird kill, coyote's you'll only find feathers... still so much water around....

Exactly right Ian. Went down there yesterday and found a feather from a primary that I knew isn't off a mallard. About 10 inches long, I know there's a big hawks nest in the trees over looking that pond. The mallard might of given a little fight or it lost it on the dive maybe.

I'm used to finding avian leftovers and even had them go after downed birds before I could get to them, of course that was before Zoe!
