OK, the last thread I started took a twist for the worse!

I said before that I am going on a Moose hunt this year. I have never hunted Moose before. I had previously asked a question on which brand of cartridges to use for my 270, with the conclusion that the Federal Premium Vital Shok NP's would be the best. I also have a 7X57 custom rifle. With my 270 I can only go up to 150 grain bullets, well at least that is all I can find these days, I have 10 older 160 grain bullets still from 10+ years ago but I can't find them anylonger. With my 7mm I can go up to 175 grain. I originally thought I would just take my 270 on the trip because it has a bit more kick than the 7mm.
Any comments on this? What rifle would you take if you had a 270 and a 7X57?

I would go with which ever rifle you are the most comfortable with. Discard (from this equation) the 10 rounds of 160gr even if you find them, I wouldn't go moose hnting with only 10 rounds.

Both will do the job with good shot placement, that is the key I beleive to being successful on a moose hunt.

If I've not been to the range with a rifle a good number of times and got used to it and any quirks it may have, I don't feel 100% comfortable taking it on a hunt.

So take which ever you feel comfortable with.....hope that helps.

Vadim, if you are comfortable with the 270, go with it and the 150 federals. It will get the job done if you play your part

i've shot moose with 150 grain 308 and never had any problems, i have shot them in the head and lungs and down they go so if you are comfortable with the 270 use it. My brother in law used his 270 moose hunting and it always did the job.

Don't let anyone discourage yah. Just take your .270 and don't look back.

either cartridge, properly loaded, is a good choice for moose

7x57 factory ammo sucks, so I would go with the 270. If you made your own ammo, it'd be the other way around.

Like most people say...go with the one you're more comfortable with. Does it really matter if you shoot an animal in the heart and you're using cheap ammo or expensive ammo or/ a magnum or not? The answer is no! The animal will be dead with a well placed shot. Work on accuracy and things should be okay.

Go with the 270. It will flatten a moose if you do your part. A friend uses the 270 winchester every year for moose and he always has his freezer full.

My wifes uncle uses a .270 and I have never seen him use more than one bullet on numerous moose of all sizes. It will do the job if you do.

Last summer I shot a moose with 150 grain Federal NP out of my .270 Win
worked just find. I am sure the moose will not know the difference between 7x57 and 270.

I say take both, shot the one you feel most comfortable with but have a back up rifle just in case.

i'd go with 7mm mag with 160 grain Accubond,it works the best on medium to large game,I think that the 270 is a bit too small.(in my opinion)

Well I would take the 7mm mag if I had one! I have a .270 and a 7X57mm. Thanks for the advice anyhow.
