Well, here is my Abby girl at 6months old.
today was her first day at full water retrieval, and she did very well. It took several minutes to get her interested in the dead fowl trainer , but once she did it was a great day of retrieves.
it started with some close to shore tosses, and gradually ended with some serious throws until she got a little tired of the big swims.
then when we were done we had some good play time and a nice walk.
she did some seriously great work today!

LOL, thats the first thing i said when the duck showed up at the door too, ITs banded! sweet.. LOL
she is from a couple in Sparwood, she is the family dog first, then my dog second, she is a great Lab and both parents are gorgeous, the mother is yellow and the father is a black.
the father is a Tank!!
there is several of the dogs in Cranbrook now and she is smaller than a few of the monster males. I am so totally impressed with the will to learn and the eagerness to please and the gentleness of this dog its just amazing.
next outing she gets introduced to the gun shots.

Pups are so cool learning to swim with a retrieve, be carefull on the introducing her to gun fire I start all mine at about 4-5 weeks with the progressive method, I find older pups have a tendancey to get startled when introduced. Nice pup BTW

Make sure you shoot some grouse and keep the wings this fall.
If you can wack some smaller ducks freeze them whole for trainers.
Im asuming you know to bring a buddy and start the dog 100yds away for the first shots she hears hey? Dont want to freak her out. Although every dog i have had part of during this had no problem right out the gates with noise.

I see some "Dead Bird!!" 's in your future

yup,,we have it planned, with the guns in the distance, she should be alright as we were at the big Canada day fireworks and she just watched them with us, she did awesome, she even curled up with the big bangs going off and tried to get some shut eye. all the big explosions did was peak her curiosity in the beginning and then just a normal thing after that.
again, just impressed with the instincts of the dog.

Thats the fun bit, watching a dog work things out. You can see their thought process happen.

53 lbs at 6 mos is a big pup for a female I'd put her at about 65-70 lbs fit adult condition. Make sure she doesnt get to overweight when developing it can be hard on the joints. Go catch or buy some pigeons and start working with her with some clip wings at her age she should be more than ready. as Kas and 835 say slow and steady and keep it fun for both of you.
