Know there's been a couple on here, Steve. Couple in the WSS newsletter.
Remember watching the old McMillan River videos and a Dr. hunting Stones with a recurve. It stays with me the difficulty in stalking them, the wind, and lack of cover most times. And now having close to 20 years of chasing them, just how much of an accomplishment it would be with a stick and string. All the best to ya......look forward to the video!

I'm 'on the fence' at the moment. The spot we were originally going to go to would be a great place to stick a hammer but getting in there isnt going to happen this year.Plan 2 is a place I know well and there WILL be shooters in there but an arrow spot? hmm...pretty tough. Also walking in a long ways. I'm thinking of breaking my bow down and strapping it on the pack and as well bringing the short mag.
I am VERRY tight on time due to work and having to go back up to guide..aarrrgghh. The bows shooting 10" groups at 80 yrds consistently and 6" at 50 as I have been practising like crazy...we shall seeeee!

Sounds like I'm trying to make the same decision about Goats this year, the difference is I will just strap my crossbow to my pack and bring my rifle as well, it's a short trip, sheep hunt on the other hand I'd love to but any extra weight sure is a gamble. I'd say bring your bow, otherwise the perfect set-up will happen and you will have to use your gun.

Bringing only the bow means you are willing (and will likely) go home without a ram. What is more important to you: the trophy OR the experience of the "quest" for mountain sheep with archery tackle? For me it is the latter... if it is the same for you then your answer is simple!

Either way it will be an amazing adventure and I wish you the best of luck!

Well , its the 2nd time in 16 yrs I can go try for one for me. And have a prtner who is likely to drag my ass up the hill.
Ive helped a shitload of guys kill em so its not a 'huge' challenge to get some lead in one...although it looks to be TONNES of fun to pull the trigger! If my original plan worked out , the spot would REALLY be a bow happy place. Plan B isnt soo bow freindly. Ive been practicing WAYY too much to just leave the damned thing...shall see...the 'tummy' will decide at last moment.
The true thrill is being up there , hiking 'anywhere' and not being restricted by health or horses. To record the entire hunt to re live for years is a huge goal , to take a ram with a gun or bow is the added bonus.Either way its a win win. I'll be the first one to tell a guy 1 or 2 inches of sheep horn isnt going to change my life . If we dont find a 'hammer' in the horn dept then at least I hope to find an old bugger like 10+ yrs old. Old fart ungulates are a prize in any species.

Either way theres gonna be some very cool video on here in a couple weeks!

Plan is to be in there 3 days early , find the potential victims and stay 'kinda' near them. Then sleep on the mountain the night before opening and see what happens!:-D

Here's my 1 and only bow kill of any species. twisted up Dall ram from 1999. 30 and 33 with 13+ bases and scores 148 and change.Holding out for 165 or better now with a bow. Guiding just doesn't leave enough time for hunting.

climbed about 1000 ft from treeline/tents up the mountain with about 30 rams scattered around the side of it. stayed behind a big rock for 6 hours until the first legal 1 came close enough. not much skill involved to get it. it even stood there long enough to shoot again as the first arrow went over its back. now that ive been trying for the bigger ones i havent been getting any handouts like that. yes it was the first ram.

Anyone wants to try this , beware the cam isnt built for the abuse. I shot it 5 times in a row and the auto focus went for a 'time out'...then came nack to normal.
I have it 'dialed' to appropriate zoom to clearly see whole animal , arrow flight/impact and will be able to follow the hit animal easily.
I wont shoot the bow again with the cam on it till its 'go time'...not a good idea to shoot it multiple times with cam on it !!
But perfect for the 'hunt'. Going to use it on a blacktail this fall too , cant wait !!

I guided a guy this spring who makes wicked universal cam mounts intended exactly for this purpose, check out insane archery. Add a rubber grommet of some sort to help absorb the vibration after the shot.

PG if you want to get a ram with your bow leave the firestick at home. If you go home without a ram so what! Be not afraid!!!

Steve, get a Contour. HD, built in GPS and one touch operation. Also has lasers to help aim it. If I was bowhunting sheep I'd just put my quick-release cam mount on my bow (Included in kit)
They have Basic, HD, GPS and Waterproof versions.

Looks like a cool setup, hope it works out for ya!!!

Since getting to BC I've been reading a pile about Stone sheep hunting. Todagin Mtn really intrigues me!! Its been 2 years since I put the bow down due to some shoulder injury and time (needed a break anyways), but the idea of doing a Todagin Mtn sheep hunt would be interesting someday. Now if only they made a lightweight crossbow! LOL.

Good luck this year, I cant wait to get out for Stones next year!

Thanks Dude , I have been looking at the new 'Drift HD' , there new model is small and has interchangable lens's as well has zoom...wich is key.
I have the gopro but it sucks as there is no zoom and seeing antlers at 20 yrds is a challenge.TheHandy Cam set up should be wicked and the cam doubles up as a good quality handheld. We also have the expensive professional cam gear for the trip wich will be rolling on all three ram kills.
The handy cam set up is kind of appealing to me for this trip as I have it 'dialed' to show CLEAR whole animal and at the same time show arrow drawing back , the shot , impact as well nothing leaves the screen upon the shot.
Its as well easy to follow the animal for pile up with the view screen flipped out where its going to be a 'hit/miss' with the other 'action' type mountable cams.
I 'may' try the new 'Drift' for the blacktail hunting later. Cant wait to get it on ! comin close.

Aside from a home made MaGyver version, another option to the Insane Archery mount, is Bowfinger Archery. Their 2.0 model allows lots of mount and camera positioning options.
Also, if you want the waterproof, durability of the sports action cam like the Gopro types, but with some zoom, look at the waterpoof HD point and shoots. Limited to about 5x zoom but seems plenty for bow distance shots...but not for distance observing... Only get optical zoom and pay no attention to digital zoom capability (grainy)....Also, for whatever technical reason, I found the cheaper digital stabilization models to react better than the optical stabilizer models when it cam to the shock impact on release.

ruined 2 of my cameras with a home made mount like that, got about 10 shots each. My understanding ...electronics on bow disqualifies from P & Y entry so anything shot with that system could not be entered, t or f.

Got my bow hunt permit again for sheep this year so after a couple months of guiding maybe I'll get a chance to add a new pic to this thread. good luck guys.
