Took these pictures at the Pemberton Museum today that I thought I would share.

These first pics are of the Ed Ronayne Buck that was taken in the headwaters of Johnny Sandy Creek in 1970. It net scores 169 3/8 and is considered the biggest buck ever taken in Pemberton.

The next couple photos may come as a bit of a surprise to some, I know I was when I was first told about it. Shot in the '30's above the tracks in Mt. Currie by Pierre Jim it was the first and only California Bighorn taken or seen in the Pemberton area. I can't remmber the score exactly but I think it is 159 and it is entered in the BC Record Book. Presumably on a walkabout from the Seton herd.

No but I hear they both like to be mounted...:lol:

My Dad tells me the Ram horns used to hang in the pool hall in Mt. Currie. Apparently when they tore the pool hall down the horns went in the burn pile with the rest of the scrap. Thankfully Loyd Wiliams who was Pierre Jim's nephew happened along and pulled them out just in time.

And it was a stroke of luck that Lloyd happened by when he did.

Another great story from my Dad on Eddys buck.

A guy here shot a monster blacktail in 1970. I have a picture of it as well and it was posted on here last year on proguides "Blackie thread" but here it is again.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s56/gilmore-c/BriansBuck.jpg

It net scored around 158 and with only a few days left in the season was easily going to win the local "big buck" contest. Now as with all big bucks it atracted alot of attention and alot people were stopping by to check out the rack. Of course Eddy stopped by to have a look as well and the story goes that in front of more than a few people he was heard to comment something along the lines of "boy Brian that's a big buck....but I think I know where theres one a little bigger."

Everybody just kind of looked at Eddy like he was crazy but nobody was counting him out either as he was pretty much the best big buck killer in the valley for alot of years. Sure enough a couple days later he showed up with his 169 and took home the big buck contest yet again. Pembertons two biggest blacktail bucks taken in the same season less than 2km's apart.

Don't worry about it already been posted in proguides thread. I could never get bored of seeing it. They deserved to be shown off. Hmmm wondering their father/son or both share the same father genes. Darn near identitcal racks....

Does any one know what the BC record blacktail is and where it was taken from?

Thanks Gate. Shouldn't that Ed Ronayne Buck be the BC record Blacktail if it scores over 169?

It was taken on the East side of the Lillooet River so it would be considered by the record books a blacktail/mulie cross and therefore ineligible to be entered.

Update!!!

The Pemberton Wildlife Association who owns both sets of horns that reside at the Pemberton Museum are having the Ronayne buck mounted! Gonna look great when completed, here is a "work in progress" photo. I always thought the way the horns were mounted on the plaque did it no justice, and I was correct!

Before....
