View Full Version : Problem with my new neighbour

So, I get off my truck yesterday, and she has her head sticking out of the hedge, just staring at me. I'm a bit spooked, so I glanced back and she backed away and hide behind the hedge. I moved around, and sure enough she was there again, not budging. I moved toward her, and she moved to face me. Now I think it's not funny. I have my bow in my truck, I'm thinking seriously to go get it and see what she does. Anyhow, I think I have enough of her and her masked face. I go in and called the city, and they tell me there's nothing they can do about it. She gave a phone # to call and they gave me the same answer. Worse, they both told me I can't even kill her!

So, what do you do with a pest raccoon who made your hedge her home?

Considering the filth and disease that they carry, do something. Then clean up all the feces while in a haz-mat suit.

x2. Have a family of coons roaming around the neighborhood a few months back. They even got a hold of some of the neighborhood cats (not that I mind to much about that). Neighbor called the city and animal control, and both said "they'll most likely move on soon". Well, they haven't moved on, and once in a while see them in my back yard when my dog wakes me with his barking at night........fix the problem........keep it quiet.......

lol, best advise off the year. try a live trap with scrambled eggs as bit, it used to work for my dad.

It would cost you 100.00 for a trapper to remove this coon from your premises if he caught it..

Keep in mind that if you do live cage trap this coon you are only allowed by law to take it 400 meters from the capture site then you have to release the animal by law only a registered trapper can take the animal to any location he wants ,so if there is a problum with this coon and you deal with it yourself then keep it to yourself whatever you do.

It would be a terrible tragedy if that live trap containing a 'coon happened to fall into a garbage can full of water. Be very carefull it doesn't happen.

If you have a dog or outside pets do not let them tangle with a coon, those coons are tuff, sharp razor teeth and claws and powerful it'll rip your dogs ear right off in one little fight and they growl like a wounded bear.
Phone city by-law or the co office for help.
Jel .. That there coon is wild and dangerous, it will rip your dogs face and ears apart ..
I know I've seen many coons and dog encounters, it ain't pritty in the city ..

Ya, those live traps (easily bought at crappy tire) allways seem to fall into a garbage can of water. So ya, watch out for that.
On a side note, last year a coon in my woodshed pissed on my head....ya like those Calvin pissing on a car logo bumper-sticker.
Got a coonhound 6 months ago. Yup, but i'm not bitter

If it's a sow with cubs (I had to look it up (http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/animals/Animalbabies.shtml)) then they can be harassed away. Mom will move to an alternate site if not safe. Try some Van Halen and a strobe light.

So you saw a racoon in your yard... big deal.

I've seen 11 in my backyard at once. we have chickens and they don't the racoons won't even bother them in the open. I'd probably just shoo the racoon away and be done with it. no need to bother the city about it.... pretty simple

PS dude, racoons are definately a regular occurance in abbotsford. get used to it. so are skunks and opposums. and just cause u see them, doesn't make them pests. they are probably eating all the garbage and rats around town, cleaning it up to some extent, lol.

Learned something new tonight a sow raccoon. Maybe next time you phone the city just tell them there's a SOW in your front yard you might get a better responce that way. lol

I would first try to become friends with this raccoon. Maybe make a picnic you could take to it and leave near the hedge for it and its family to eat. Maybe put out some nice croisants or some baguettes, then once you sit with it and spend some time with it, you become friends with it, and weave your life into its own. Get to know its family and really try to love and understand them. Then...when its least expecting it, after several years, you put on some light soft music, get the little sow relaxed, start giving it a nice gentle shoulder rub, and all of a sudden just start throttling the F*&# out of it.

Its worked for me in the past....though it is time consuming to gain their ultimate trust.

Spray her with the hose everyday and if shes still around Sept 1 use your bow ( opening day ) and then you can show us all pictures of a half drowned raccoon.lol

go to the local store and pick up a few cans of cat food, some apples etc. and bait the yard of the guy across the street and let him deal with it.
