What is best road to Bamfield from Ladysmith trailering boat and 5th wheel as separate units? Is there active logging between Lake Cowichan and Bamfiled and how is the condition of the road compared to the Alberni route?

Alberni no doubt. Youbou rd was rough last time I was on it! Cowichan isn't too bad if your doing a loop trip hunting or something bud I wouldn't bother goin down that way with trailers and boats.

Bring spare tire for trailer and a bearing incase one packs it in.

Yep Alberni route. I was from Albernie to Victoria via that route twice in the last 2 months. Bamfield road from Port is great. North Shore was ok but Nit Nat was not good and then you get to deal with the "Paved" section which is best suited for surfing.

I went the Alberni route last week. The road was good. Grader was working it. Watch for a few highway logging trucks hauling.

i was out to Franklin river camp last weekend and the road from port to there was in the best shape ever, we had a family event there so lots of non offroaders who had never touched gravel before and non of them thought it was even rough,
its been a few months since i went the Cowichan route but it was rough last time. my uncle drove back to Ladysmith via Cowichan after our event but he was just a truck with no cargo and said it was ok but would be slow with a trailer.
