Just Curious if there is any elk around Princeton area? Thinking about doing a white tail /elk hunt in the second week of october (doing a mulie hunt same egion last week of November) never hunted elk before so just curious if there moving around Pike mtn? and also when do elk rut and is calling affective in pre rut?

Elk usually rut during the first 2 weeks of September. Of course this is weather dependant but I would say that they will be done by Oct.1 for sure.

My daughter & I saw two in mid October in Region 8-14. Those are the only two I've seen in Reg 8.

The Princeton area harvest of 6pt bulls was up considerably last year over previous years. I hope that's an indicator of the herd's health.

Talking to a friend of mine from Princeton he sad there were 22 confirmed bulls killed in that region last year. Sounds like it has the makings of a healthy herd! :cool:

I've seen 1 5x5 bull and 1 cow elk on pike in the last 3 years. Lots of sign though, they're in there.

They are there, but in some nasty spots.

darcy mountain has a good size herd. also south of princeton.

Havn't seen any at Pike Mtn yet but there is some to be found up Whipsaw/Lamont Creek area.
