This past weekend my son Sam and I went for a bear hunt. We found 6 bears in total and eventually ended the hunt on Saturday. It was a great experience for Sam and I alike as we encountered several exciting bear hunting scenarios that kept the allure of the hunt alive. We blew one stalk, passed on a few small bears, shot and missed on another, spooked a bear off the road, set up for another shot and decided it was unsafe to take. Sam's patients were a testament to his character and future as a hunter. It was evident early on that the trip was already a success regardless of what the final outcome would be. I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story.

Who can resist a turn through a big mud hole?

A couple pics to remember the climb up and over the mountain. We reached 6500 ft before beginning the descent in to a new valley.

Too tough to get a picture without the mosquitoes landing on the bear.....or us! Thumbs up anyways!

Thanks fellas for the positive comments. I will have two older kids ready to go this fall for youth season and am looking forward to getting them out together. Hunting without my kids feels a little selfish these days. I look forward to passng on the knowledge I have learned and hope that they can become better hunters than me (which shouldn't be to hard). I am planning to build a few blinds this summer to get ready for the early fall. With some luck the kids will have their own deer on the ground.

I plan on putting together a few of those pics and others to hang up around the house.

He was jumping up and down and giving me big bear hugs. It was a great moment. As I unwind from the hunt and digest all that happened I feel more and more happy about the events. I'm slow to celebrate and often am a little disappointed that the hunt is over. Kind of like buyers remorse but more like shooters remorse.
