Well out checking out a new area today for the fall. After hiking the area for 3hrs I was almost back to where I started from when I noticed a cple points sticking out from the ferns and leaves. Couldn't believe my luck and my next thought was if I'd find the other one. Well less than 2mins and 10 paces I spotted more points. Pretty excited I put up my trail cam nearby and headed home. The sheds are two years old and if he's still alive he'll be a brute this fall.

Hells Yes. Lucky find dude, i'm envious. a pair of BT sheds is hard to put together.

I'd be thinking IF that buck is still alive, this will be his last winter.

Its one of those Squamish ghost BT's. There were rubs, seemed to like rubbing on 3-4 trees growing out of one trunk then 20-30yrds away rubbing on similiar trees. Trail camera is up, might have to put up another. I'm hoping to get back in and look for his sheds from last year after finding these I left the area pretty fast I was just to darn happy hehe. Either way I hope to find out if he's still kicking, atleast his genes will be in the area. I was thinking on the hike back to the truck as I drooled over the sheds. Even if I never see him or if he's dead atleast I got a part of him. He's got to have sons after all. I can't wait to start seeing what the trail cam picks up. I definately agree that he's prolly going down hill.

That was real lucky find them antlers are very thick mass they look like they have been on the ground for about 3 years the buck that was caring them might still be around the trail will help you out on seeing if he is still around in this area..

Awesome find! Im a newish hunter and is there really any noticeable differences in mule deer and blacktail? or differences in their antlers? Or are they pretty much the same?
Thanks and nice sheds!

Easiest way to describe the antlers are forked like mulies but in compact whitetail frames. Blacktail antlers arent going to be as big. But theres still some monsters out there wearing 150-160inches. They can have alot of character and thats why I love them. Check out pics on this site of BT's and you'll see the difference. Proguide has excellant pics and videos on here of big mature bucks.

Ok, Can Mulies and Blacktails be in the same area? Or are the Blacktails Lower Mainland usually?

I believe theres a boundary. Yes I know that sounds silly seeing how animals can walk where ever they want. Proguide66 and Gatehouse are very informative. Check out the the thread "book class blacktail hunting". Its a long thread but excellant reading, great pics and full of information.

I might just do that! Ive never really noticed such a difference in species until today, I don't think I will be seeing too many Blacktails up here in the Peace haha.

Well haven't found any new sheds. But I did find some bone today a couple hundred yards from the last shed.

Took a few pics of a couple rubs. The first is one some decent size trees while the last 3 pics are from the same cluster of trees. All pics show newer and older rubs. There was a deer trail literally 8-10 inches deep in the ground going by these. They were roughly 20yrds away from each other. Plenty more rubs around.
