Well I just got back from a 5 day fishing adventure up Highway 20. What a trip it was!!
Leaving home at 2:30 in the morning after a disappointing Game 7 loss we headed up towards our destination and arrived around 12:30. We quickly unloaded and headed out on the lake meeting up with our other group who were already fishing. After four hours of no luck we headed in to drink the road weariness out of our systems.
The next day we got out early(11:30 haha) and fished till the wind came up. No luck again a couple bits and one that fought its way off the hook. We went for a little tour of the area and what a beautiful country it is up there!!
After another night of drinking we got up and hit the water again. It was our derby day. Biggest fish wins the trophy. So it was time to get on them bow's. Battling through the rain we headed out and set up in a spot we had seen them rising. We dropped anchor and waited as we were Chronie fishing.
After a few hours and a few beers we started to see some action a little closer to shore. We headed over and cast right into the action. Within minutes our first indicator was down. A promising sign after two days of waiting. The fish was on but snapped the line. A few casts later my buddies indicator was down. Fish on!! Reeling in our lines my uncle's indicator went down. Double header on derby day!! Awesome rush! They fought like a caged lions. Coming in to the boat and peeling line. After a good 10 minutes the first was brought in 5.6 pounds. The next came in right after 4.7 pounds. Two absolute hogs! We fished all day that day and my uncle caught a 6.2 pounder that won the derby. We released two 5+ pounders and headed back to camp to celebrate.
Our other guys had to head home, so we helped pack up and hit the water a little later. With no action on we toured the lake. Around 3 we saw them starting to rise again in the same spot as the day before. We rushed over there and cast away. BAM! Indicator down on the first cast I was onto a hog that had eluded me all weekend! It was fighting away from the other lines so they kept at it and sure enough my uncle's indicator went down. Another double header. As we fought I caught a glimpse of my beast. It peeled me right back to my backing. I couldn't even horse it to the boat. I knew it was an absolute hog! After 15 minutes he finally tired and I got him in. 8.6 pounds of pure fighting madness! The biggest fish ever caught on the annual boys trip! The fish gods were looking out for me that day! My uncles fish turned out to be another nice slab looking to be about 6 pounds. We kept my hog and released his. What a rush that was!!
The fishing turned off just like that so we headed in took some pictures and reflected on what just was caught. We headed home yesterday...No question in my mind it was the best boys trip I've ever been on. Wish I was still there but I will be again to fight some of those Triploid *******s.
