So I only made one camping trip before the end of this spring season. Saw this big guy across a canyon. Estimated range was 800 meters....so this is the original photo

Okay...so I enlarged the photo for 50% and cropped this bear out...

Looks pretty small to me. Lots of area below it....

Tough call. At first I thought maybe a medium size bear but now I'm not so sure. He's definitely in that range that could be a larger bear. The thickness and length of his neck with relation to his head would indicate a larger bear. Would have to watch the way he moves in the spotting scope for a while to get a better idea.

5' 11" after skinned without stretching. And from that distance it's also hard to tell if he's 18 7/16" or 18 1/2".

jk. too bad you werent able to get in closer for a better look.

5,6 is my guess its fare out hard to give a true length call on this bear..

Looks like a fairly lengthy bear but you'd have to be closer to be sure. I'm sure most of us have spotted a "monster" then once we got closer realized it was average. He looks good from a far though.

when it falls to a hail of fire from an SKS, you can measure it :)

Small Squamish bear.

This is so biased! :) I've seen big ones in squamish. I think this is a long but not so fat bear.

Too far away to judge for me. If I'm not sure on the size, I like to get within range to not have to use binos and then use them. On a really big bear it is usually easy to tell, if you can't tell from that far away then its probably not a record breaker.

Looks bigger then most of these so called 6 ft. bears posted on here this year.
