Great photos... see the 4rth large photo of the bear going sideways?? See how the head seems to be just "attached " to the body teddy bear style?? no neck.... good indication its a female...

great photos..

Yep. Looks like a sow for sure.
A boar will have more of a "polar bear" neck.

Nice pics!

I was going to ask if people thought this was sow, that was my inclination before getting to the replies. Glad others posted up their thoughts already!

I would bet my Boston Bruins jersey that that's a sow!

That would be a very hard bear not to shoot! If you had a tag. Looking at the pictures though I would also guess its a sow with the shoulders in the 3rd pictures being very narrow, plus the furry look rather than hair, and its face seems more pointy than blocky.

I guess when a large bear stands on all 4 paws, with rear legs slightly extended out at the rear and pisses directly under it's stomach ?,

then this posture would indicate that it is a female bear? :?

we noticed up in the mountains that pretty much all the bears had really long fur so they all looked fuzzy so it was more Size, shape and how they walked that gave hints . (cubs also helped confirm this)

how "incredible" to hear this is a sow! lol
??? myself after filming this bear in this thread for 10/15 minutes, and as the Grizz fed away from us into the wind (as bears most often do), and to get this G bear's attention, I started making calf in distress bawls and mews, immediately, the Grizz turned and started approaching us in clear view,,watching us intently, casually feeding, but making an ever more steady advancement directly towards us,stopping to casually munch a bit of dandelions, at one point stretched out a bit and pissed directly under his stomach, several long hard squirts,,,, still kept stalking nearer, until about 40 yards from us ,after standing up his hind legs, twice and giving us the eye and sniffing and snorting, he decided to call off his stalk,

and now, some online , self certified, grizzly bear gynecologists, certify this Grizz is a female ! lmao!

Let's see the video. Good learning experience. I would have guessed a female. Show us the video and prove us wrong. Better than these damn hockey players for the moment.

I'm no gynecologist, but that's the first thing I thought...sow. Sow's will show aggression and bluff charge, not just boars.

I just like that you shared the pictures... given no cubs in tow and my lack of grizz experience, would go with big grizz and say thanks for the pics and the show.

the pictures of this same bear were in my HBC photo gallery 2 days before Ohotnic posted this thread, we pretty much have the same pictures, matter of fact we were using identical cameras, lol

so look in the HBC Gallery, fill your boots, fill your pants, lol

this Grizzly bear is pretty much a carbon copy of my last years LEH Grizz boar shot in 7B,

the color is the same, the body shape is the same, mine was 7.5 ft, this one from this post is a bit bigger,,,

Im certainly no expert at sexing G-bears.....but for comparison, heres a pic of a monster sow grizz I got pics of last fall! (Over 7")
I would of bet money that this was a boar before I saw her cubs!

mark the trees in that pic along with the fog makes it an eerie pic- something like a movie where grim reaper will appear just down that hill... Good pic- looks like u were pretty close- that ones gotta be a big boar rite? ;)

That was the 5th grizz in an hour......took that pic from 25 yards away......with the fog our visibility was around 75 yards.....yes it was an eerie walk off the mountain!

Heres the last pic I took of her before I dropped my camera, and raised the gun!

Heres some more pics... http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/showthread.php?56651-Recent-alpine-exp.&highlight=

Great pictures and nice looking bear guys from what you guys said about the urinating posture it sounds like a boar. If I had seen this bear and not had the info you provided I would have said sow because of the ear position. Most big boars ears are far wider apart on the head than sows. I was told if you could run a line from the inside portion of the ear down through the eye its either a small bear or a sow. I will post my boar from 2007 and trapmans from last year as a reference. The skull on mine dried at 23 2/16 making the BC book and trapmans was 25 13/16 BC book and all time B&C
My 2007 boar

Trapmans boarhttp://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/medium/grizzly_1.jpg (http://javascript<b></b>:;)

You can see what I mean about the ears being further apart on these than the one on the posted pictures.

Found elkdoms pics of the grizzly. From his pics I could clearly tell it was a male. Joking. I couldn't find the video of it peeing. I think I tried to upload pics to the gallery once and gave up quickly.

If you can post the video for us to watch, that would be great. I have had 3 grizzly tags so far and have never had confidence in identifying them.

re-read the thread, I watched the bear piss on the ground forward and under HIS stomach, I was within 40 yards of HIM in the open, short grass,

at a glance, you can "SEX" a bear from some else's pics?

do you really believe some the stuff you post? or are you just "spooning with some of the other"online bear gynecologists" ?:-?

I didnt video, I shot stills ,about 30 of them,

I hunted Grizz for 25 years before there even was an LEH for Grizz, in BC,
I have personally killed MANY, I have guided(20+ years) and partook in killing MANY more,
and out of participating in probably 45/50 Grizz kills, not ONE was a female, although a couple of sows were killed in those years, only in circumstance of camp-robbing Grizz or aggressive encounters,, these were not choices but necessity!
