~Alpine Lake for trout?

I'm plannin' to take my kids out to a sub-alpine lake that has been stocked with trip's... I mainly fish rivers & haven't fished a high, small lake for years. The melt is ~1 month late here. What would you recommend on a fly rod? Would it still be chironomid season?

A 5 weight is never a bad option, unless I expect smallish fish and then I take a 3 weight. Chironomids are going strong!

Try the pheasant tails and half backs.....and small leeches .

Depends were your fishing but if the ice is just coming off or came off you should do good fishing micro leeches in the bays. If the chronomids are hatching then they would be a good bet.
