300 yard free hand shot at a grizz - good job, remind me to never hunt with you.

Kinda reminds me of a hunt a couple of years ago, but it was moose. I watched 3 guys empty there guns on a running moose, 11 shots in total and they hit it in the butt once. I walk out to them and made lots of noise as I didn't want to be a target. Asked what they where doing, I ranged it 400 yards freehand, they said they missed it I said no you didn't, looked for 20 minutes finally found some blood 3 drops, they didn't seem to concerned looked for maybe 15 minutes after that and that was it. I checked the area for the next 3 days no bird or scavenager sign so hopefully just a nick I see them every year up there but have nothing to do with them. Gives us all a bad name, not ethical in my mind :(

It was only 292, besides, I have hit clays @ 200m with iron sights on a Marlin 45-70.
May not be a pratical shot for most, but it is do-able with the right person on the trigger.

Absolutely, but you have to ask the question, the O.P. drove for thirteen hours, hunted for five, why couldn't he take an extra few minutes to find a rest? Was there nothing he could do to mitigate the risks involved with such a questionable shot? If you only had 25 seconds to take a shot because it was on the move then a 292 yard freehand shot maybe wasn't the answer. I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt here, but based on what little has been said, it's hard not to pass some judgement.

I've got no commentary on the shot as I know there's always a better marksman out there.... This Dude could be one of them guys that spends 6 hours a day, 3 days a week, practising for the past 20 years at various clubs. He could also be travelling the world in competitions, I dunno. But I do know, if I *knew* I didn't need a rest, I wouldn't worry about one.

Some parts of the hunt do raise questions in my mind but they've already been asked, so I see no bother in becoming a flame.

Pot shots at deer, coyotes, grouse, etc are one thing - pot shots at grizz is another. I know there is no way in hell I would even think about that shot regardless of the species on the other end. A 6-10 inch target at 300 yards is a pretty small thing to hit freehand - I'd would love to see somebody hit this consistantly from this site.

Not sure your point but these are his words

I'm no knocking his accuracy or his tale, but hunting bears needs a little more time than 25 seconds in my opinion.
