I just bought a 111 savage in 270win. It is a cloverleaf shooting rifle. Savage are pretty darn accurate rifles! Don't overload the reloads though, it is tough on extractors, and extractor springs!! Just sayin!! Moosin

That sounds like a steal, even for Savage. What scope do they slap on it for that price, must be a junker!

I've been considering buying a Savage. I really like the Savage .22s we plink with at the range. Very light and accurate guns. I'd say to make sure you buy the Accutrigger model if you get a Savage - you can set the trigger very light, and it has an interesting 2-stage trigger "safety" to prevent accidental firing. I'm a fan.

Quite possible it could be an Axis... Their scopes are usually "package scopes" not a banner, not a trophy, not an elite but price point for sure. Part way between banner and trophy if I'm not mistaken. They're good for getting you started and out and about. No one says you gotta keep them forever. Most guys end up just keeping the package scopes on anyways. If they turn out to be a serious hunter they end up buying high end gear when they're able to.

111 series is a pretty awesome bang for your buck...

Wasn't so much ripping on the scope as I was noting that they are basically throwing it in for free, at that price point on a stainless rifle.
What is the actual model #? I didn't think Savage offered a package with a stainless barrel and scope. Is it the 116FXP3?

The scope rings are garbage ,other then that it is a great rifle.I put some weaver rings on mine for like 30 bucks. Also make sure you can run a folded piece of paper between the stock and barrel so the barrel doesnt heat up and touch the stock causing flyers.

You may want to do a little trigger work. Try www.savagegunsmithing.com I have reduced the trigger pull on my 7mm rem.mag, plus I changed the bolt handle to a longer one to help give me more clearance between the scope and bolt handle. Makes for one smooth easy pull, like shooting a new rifle. No more hard squeezes. I believe the trigger pull on mine was 7 lbs., now it is 2.5. with the new bolt handle I have never bumped the scope in a fast reload since.

I have owned Sako Remington and Browning and have to say I think my savage weather warrior is the best rifle I have owned as hunting rifle!

i have the savage 111 in a .270 awesome gun for the price, and very accurate. if it comes with a simmons scope, use the scope for bonking fish. buy a good scope.

I bought a Savage 243 for the kids a few years ago, I think it was around 600 bucks. Came with a cheap 3x9 Simons scope, I was going to replace it with a decent one, but so far this one has worked just fine! The gun shoots deadly out of the box, I find myself using it more and more! I'm a little gun shy to fire my 300 Mag's with my screwed up Aorta, so the Savage gets to come on every hunting trip on the front Gun Rack!My T3 300 Mag was around 1300 bucks, out the door with a 4200 Bushnell, sling, and a box of rounds! So, If you don't have a ton of money to sink into a Rifle, the Savage is a great Gun for the price!

it's probably the non Accutrigger model and also likely doesn't have the Accustock, like the higher end 116 FCSS. The scope is garbage and so are the mounts but the rifle itself is a good one, you may have to get the trigger massaged from a gunsmith but it should be a good rifle.

i dont think that there is a rifle out there can beat savage fxcp 111 in its price range. i shot my first deer with my uncles 30-06, 80 yards, -10 cold, and the deer dropped dead. soon after i purchased my on savage in 270 and tagged out on deer last season. i was first interested in 770 remington but after comparing the quality and the performance, savage is far better, even with its cheap scope (comes with the package) its still pretty accurate.

I got the model 111fc? in 3006 it is a great gun and very accurate. Mine came with a bushnell scope which is pretty decent. Mine was the cheepest package at 399$

At $549 it's most likely the new 111 package in stainless. Most shops are just receiving these rifles now. They're available in 6 calibers - 270, 30-06,7mm Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag, 243, & 308.

Savage really is the best bang for your buck. They're using Shilen barrels, and have always been accurrate. You're sacrificing considerable options with the brand, though. You can only buy a bolt action, they don't chamber in every newfangled micromagnum the gunwriters are pushing, I've never liked the stock on one, and like low-end Remingtons, the Savages I've tried feel blocky and you have to be more forceful than a Tikka or Howa (Howa being another great value on the market; Italian/International is pushing packages similar to the Savages). If you don't object to any of that, Savage is the way to go. If you want a silky-smooth fits-like-a-glove 338 Federal, you're with the wrong brand.
