I figured I'd post up some pictures from my bear season. Some bears from the southern interior, some from the central interior. Sightings were a bit slow this year and lots of the bears were really thin, especially up north here. The hides were awesome this year though! Didn't get any really big bears, but most were hovering around the 6 1/2 foot range. Anyway, enjoy. Sorry for all the blank expressions.

Good job and they do have nice coat. Since I don't know much about BC bears yet, I'm new BC resident/hunter, roughly what percentage of the bear population are color phase? I'm assuming depending on the area the ratio will vary, just for knowledge let say central interior and the peace area.

Seems to be more colored bears around the last few years where I hunt and guided. My sightings guiding turned up over 50% color phase... Only one sow (black) seen with cubs matching her color.

Like Srupp said, I think it really depends on the area. It may even may vary significantly in small neighbouring areas. Where I spend a lot of time hiking around in the Kootenays I would almost guess that around 40% of the bears (the ones I see) are colour phase. Farther up north I tend to see less coloured bears, closer to 10-20% I would say. That's just based on my observations though!

Thanks for the quick answer, it's almost similar to northern Alberta. Roughly 10-20% are color phase, my experience while hunting and using trail cameras and also F&W officer information, also I'm not going to say all but the majority of outfitter in northern Alberta advertise 30-40% of their harvest is color phase but in reality it's not that high, marketing to increase sales.

The same observation for the Peace River Alberta area, some places not many color phase are present and half and hour away more color phase are seen. Just a question to find what you want and enjoy the hunt.

I am sooo jealous. Nice Bears! I Have been hiking thru the bush daily for several weeks now and haven't seen a single bear yet...... found some huge griz tracks(by myself on foot I was happy not to have met that critter in the flesh).
Going to the west koots this weekend to see if I can get a bear(or at least see one).
All these pics on the forum here are making me soooooo Jealous!!! lol

This isn't a huge beast but here's the quick story.

My wife & I have been doing extensive reno's inside and out of our house and have been extremely busy & I haven't had any time to go out for a day hunt or even take a piss. I told my wife that im done with reno's for now if I cant take one day for a bear hunt and I have to get out and go for at least 1 attempt for a bear before the first open season is closed.

Despite not having any time because contractors and painters and materials to be ordered I said forget it for 1 day i'm heading out and I left the next day. I went to one of my local spots that I know i've seen some meat bears and that my chances would be decent I headed out at 5am and took my quad to just have a nice slow day all to my self. Man was that so needed.

Things started off good as I spotted a immy moose and some deer and alot of bear turds. I took my time and didn't care if I got some thing as it was nice to just get out and be free for the day and breath some nice fresh air (you all know what that's like) it's refreshing. Any who after checking a total of 4 spots I know of locally some having snow still my day was coming to an end as I was on my last open fsr.
I stopped for about 30mins to take a drink and a piss, I got back on my quad and went around the first bend and what do you know I spot a nice meat bear just chilling staring at me not a single care in the world so I got off my quad and studied it for a bit with my bino's just in case of cubs or if it was under age. All checked out so I aimed for behind the left shoulder let one off. It rolled down hill about 3 full rolls and didn't move so I know it was the money shot.

Here's the thing that ticked me off about this hunt. I just bought a mounted camera for my rifle with a remote control and this was it's first actual recorded hunt so when I got off my quad I pressed the record button and herd it start recording but because of the moment I didn't hear it beep and shut off because of low battery so I never caught it at all on my new cam. Oh well next time I guess. I used up all the battery life when I was spending the time recording the immy and the deer and other nice scenes.

Sorry for all the blabbering here's some pics. Like I said not totally huge but a nice meat bear with no rubs and a huge thick coat.

Because it was such a freaking hot day I was worried about it spoiling as it took me a little to get it out of the bush by my self I had to find a way to get it cooled down quickly so here's what I came up with. It's called natures natural cooler. Look carefully.

Nice bears. All I have seen this year are two year old size(five footer) solid blacks. I haven't seen any sow/cub combos either. But I did see 2 grizzly sows with twin cubs one day on the highway.
