Question for all those who have harvested bears this year. What time was it when you took your shot?

I've only harvested one black bear (meat bear, sorry no pics) and that one was shot at about 2 in the afternoon. I see more bears between 2 and 5pm than any other times, mind you that's most often when I am afield in the spring. I've read past posts on best time to hunt, but am curious when people are pulling the trigger.

Just before sunset. That way you get to track (if needed), gut, skin and quarter in the dark. Just to make things more fun.

I got miine this year about half hour before sundown, luckily he dropped 5 feet from where he was shot and I had most of the ugly work done before it was completely dark. But I've seen tons of sows with cubs at the crack of dawn as well as on my way out when its too dark to shoot.

A head lamp is a handy piece of kit.

I am in the kootenays. I have seen close to 40 different bears this spring so far from Grand Forks to the Salmo Creston. I hunt the last 3 hours of the day and that is when I see the most bears. I have hunted early and that's also good but evening is the best for my area. Middle of the day like usual is pretty slow.

That would explain, why I haven't seen any bears, starting at 9 and having to leave the bush around 3 PM. It is definitely something I will have to consider on my next bear hunt. Lesson learned.

Have easily seen well over 100 bears this year and I have seen them at all times of the day. I've seen 3 die, 2 were afternoon bears, 1 was an evening bear.

4:32 am..... where is that even legal shooting time right now?

And that brings another question..... I once drove to Inuvik and enjoyed the beautiful dempster highway along with all it has to offer... even saw a grizz chasing a wolf across the tundra. I experienced 24hr sunlight for the first time that trip and loved it! Never looked into regs up that way though.... what are hunt times in areas that experience 24hr sunlight or 24hr darkness?

I went out twice for bear this year saw two the first day, first just before 11am and shot the second just before 12pm. Next time I took my buddy out and we saw a chocolate one at 9:30am and a brown fuzzy cub up a tree around 10:15am Im assuming the coyote we spooked down the road scared the cub up the tree... was thick bush on either side of the road and after seeing the cub thought it better not to walk any further and we turned around.

This morning in Williams Lake it was legal to hunt big game at 3:48 am pst. Civil twilight (generally light enough to see) was 4:00 am. Not sure where he was hunting though, but anywhere north of there would be even earlier.

I have killed two bears in the last two spring seasons and both have been around 2-3pm. Late afternoon seems to be best.
