Im pretty sure there are no trees left in that area. They have been logging it as fast as possible trying to harvest all the beetle kill...

I'm hunting this area in 2006, in from Falkland, B.C. This area has been known to be good mules and whites in the passed. What's your take on this popular area. Ever been there? What did you see? Steep, Flat, open, etc etc etc. :arrow:from musgrave creek all the way to roche lake is
a high density area south side of highway

Are you planning on going early season or late?? If you go late you won't be far from Reg 3. If you want to go even later you can catch the peak of the rut as opposed to Reg 8 where muley season shuts down Nov 10th.

How r the roads conditions?
Dry and wet conditions are completely different in the Pinaus area. That's got to be the slipperiest gumbo in the southern interior when it gets wet! Someone must have tracked it down from the Peace....

Been a lot of years since I hunted there bug definitely lots of deer in the area even with the fires and the bugs. As others have said ,if wet the around Pinaus is almost un- drivable. If hunting Whitemans make sure you are way upstream off the reserve. Mike

Jelves you can`t get through from chapprone there`s gates. But once you get past the private pro. on the salmon . there`s a road to your left just past the first bridge good hunting up there but will take you to ingram and jimmeymane . but theres another DLR gate just past jimmey nope can`t get there from here. Real good deer hunting for both whiteys and mulies. to get to whitemans you will have to go down ingram to 6mile down the pavement to whitemans. Unless you have a DLR key

Hunted there a few times. Seems to be a very heathy population of MD. I always put in for does in Region 3 as I would like to try late one year and miss the rain. (roads can be a mess). Stayed at the fishing camp for a couple of nights in 2005. The place was in a sorry state. Maybe new owners??

Pinaus lake has been part of my trapline for better than 25 years. It used to be a very good area for Mule Deer but in the last five years it has suffered a major hit from the Mountain Pine Beetle. That whole area looks like one giant open cutblock. I did manage to get a nice 5x4 Mulie very late in the season and that was the only shootable buck I had seen for 2 1/2 months. You have to remember that I am up there 3+ days a week, daylight to dark from Sept. through to mid March.
Now from the late summer on there are as many as 150 loads of logs coming off either Ingram, the Salmon river Rd or out Whiteman"s. It is not a very good idea to be up on any of the main FSR without a radio. I sat at the bottom of the Salmon late last winter and there was a load of logs coming down the road every 7 min. Yes you may get a chance at a good buck but you are going to have to be very skillful and patient, dodge traffic and just be plain lucky.
Cheers
Pete

Hi guys. Whiteman's is just as bad as the rest of that whole system. That includes that are going out past Stewart lake down Bear Creek main. Every where from Beaulieu Lake out to the Target and down to the grasslands of Sawmill. It does not matter where you go you are going to be faced with logging trucks. Radios are a must. Try getting around in the winter trapping, what a pain.
Cheers
Pete

Not the one that logs up there ... just slowed down logging & hauling for now to reduce log inventory in the yards I believe .
As far as getting there , I would just "follow" a logging truck up or down if I dont have a radio when on the mains ... there are alot of side roads with no logging traffic .

Currently the logging companies are logging the crap out of the Ingrarm, Pinaus Lake, Whitemans areas. The back of whitemans down into Barton creek is just one giant cut block. There are some good bucks still to be had but you are really going to have to work for them. Be aware that on any given day there can be upwards of 100 loads of logs a day coming out of these areas. A radio in your truck is a really good move. Probably the safest way up is up Whitemans via the westside itself as the brunt of the logs are going out through the Salmon to Douglas lake Rd or down the Private main. Ingram main also can have some very heavy traffic on it. If they are logging around Pinaus the logs will all be coming out Will Lake rd to join up with the Ingram at 7 km.

That whole area south of Pinaus south to Beaulieu Lake and down into the Whitemans gets hit really hard from poachers and 1st nations hunters. More often than not during the night. We had a Search out on the back of the Whitemans before Christmas and actually had guys up in the bush truck hunting at midnight. As well when we were coming out someone took a buck right on westside rd. There were 2 trucks and 4 guys working on the deer when our first guys went by. By the time we got there they had thrown the buck into the back of their truck and had taken off. It is not a good thing.

I have hunted the area many times, I never saw anyone at night until the last few years, I set my camp where I could see the entire valley, then I saw the dudes hunting, its pathetic, I wonder why the CO's dont do anything? alls they have to do is wait. I saw them pitlamping 10 minutes after the CO stopped me, they know there doing it, anyways when they see someone they just drive away like their ass is on fire. Maybe they will drive off one of those cliffs at night, I think the CO's are afraid to bust them, as nothing is ever done. The pitlampers have nothing to be proud of there, I wonder what the elder's think, are they proud of the mighty hunters who cant shoot anything in the daylight. I have abandoned the area, daytime and nighttime are 2 different things. Oh, and there poor shots to, I found enough meat left to make me go somewhere else. I'm a supporter of aboriginal hunting, but that is embarrassing, and a sin to the creator.

seen the silouette of the vehicle at night, then seen it at first light, with dead things in the back, not just once either, oh well, everything one does comes back on them sooner or later, good or bad, thats what I think anyway.

If it is aboriginals what are you expecting the COs to do?

ok jelvis here ya go,up pinus way not to far from the boarder of 3-12 and 8-21 just last season i found a shead that surely would be in the mid 80's and then 2 seasons ago i saw the biggest muley in my life up there and although no shot was offered he was only 40 yrds in front of my truck when he jumped onto the rough back road i was on.looked at me ,licked his lips, and the mrs just sat there in awwwwwwwwww ,instead ofg getting out to shoot.by the time she opened her door and i reached for my gun in the back seat he turned and took off like we had just shot him.never to be seen again.
i thought for hrs after words if it was just a dream as both me and the wife couldnt believe our eyes.tines were around 8 in past his ears and at least 3 to 4 times the length of his ears in height.
needless to say i was up there 5 times last year searching for him and still havent found his bedroom ,but i will.
all in all though there are a few good ones up there they are few and far between

Hey Jel,
I live in Westwold and quad from home up to Pinaus Lake to hunt. I do it because it's easy, not because the hunting is unreal. Granted, I could only be saying that to reduce interest in my backyard, but I'm not.
I'm not one for scoring antlers, but most of the bucks I have seen or shot in the area have the front of their racks closed in. I am sure others could agree who have hunted the Ingram/Private area. It's still a fine area to hunt, especially with the chance of imm. bull moose, but I have found many areas in the province to be far superior for the mule deer.
White-tails - I think the best chances in this area are up Kelly Main, which is near the Salmon Valley Junction store near Schwebs Bridge. There are generally no logging trucks on it. There are some scattered White-tails in the Falkland/Westwold valley bottoms, but unless you know somebody...... ever think about driving the extra hour+ and hunting Cherryville instead? Tonnes of white-tails there!
Good luck to all!!
