They must of been out early today, its was shorty after noon that I seen the head on a trailer behind a truck. The horns look neat in the velvet,

Well the company that I work for made a mistake and told me that I was gone as of Dec 1 then today it was Aug the 31 so for the first time in 13 years i missed opening of moose, but the good side is I hope to live there next year. Then the moose shill shiver.

The moose rut is getting closer, the bulls will be shedding the velvet probably in another week say the 23rd of aug should be hangin off the rack in tatters, give a guess.. Then lots of bush raking to build his massive neck, for battle and glory, time to practice the lonely cow call, calf whine and bull call. Birch bark calls good enough. good luck moose hunters.

Trying to give yourself better odds with posting signs....questionably for different areas? Bigger/new area = better chances??

"What is this sign that says zone 5.2-3.78???"

I'm getting stoked. I head north Saturday and will be on horse back Sunday heading in. We will be hunting elk moose and sheep. I'll be saving those moose for the other guys in camp. I want elk and sheep. I have a LEH bull moose draw for later in Sept anyways.8)

I seen quite a few full velvet racks coming through town today already. Mustn't be too bad up there.

I'll bet there's no game that tastes better than an August moose.

Got a bull this morning for a friend. Wieghed 320 lbs dressed. Should be good eating. Talking to the butcher and he has one in there that was over 700 lbs dressed. He had 12 in his cooler already and with ours and three others that were on their way in he said he wasn't taking any more.
We went up by 101 on the first day and there were hunters every where. The only bull that was seen was shot in the guts by the guys ahead of us he wasn't hardly bleeding and they just gave up and left after looking for half an hour we tried for a little longer but the bush was so trampled by everyone we gave up as well.

Beware of the hornets and wasps they are everywhere. We shot the bull this morning @5:10 in my oat field and by the time we had him loaded the hornets and wasps were everywhere. We didn't get stung but when we were unloading him at the butchers you had to be careful not to take too big of a breath for fear of inhaling one.

Good hunting.

It was just a little 2 point but it was my buddies first moose and he is getting the pics developed right away. I had to go to work so I haven't had the chance to see them yet. As for the gut shot moose it bothers me whenever any animal gets wounded and lost so I got myself a Rhodesian (spelling???) ridge back/Coon hound puppy and I am working on training her to track. Maybe she will be ready for next year.

2 years ago I shot a moose in the same oat field with my bow and he was very tasty. Two weeks from now when the butcher is done we will see if he is as good eating.

Good luck to everyone that is heading out this week.

My daughter and I nailed ours yesterday about noon. talking to the guy @ 101 meats he said this has been a record year for him, he turned down the 24th moose on opening day and mine was 12th on day two around 3pm. the guys up the highway are saying the moose are crossing each others paths.

My buddy from down South came up and we took 2 on Wednesday morning. Tonnes of guys driving the roads, but we took ours by walking old roads, cutblocks and seismic lines and didn't run into anybody. Just went back with quads to pick them up. He is still up the highway looking to get one for his son. We also took ours to 101 meats and there were 3 other guys dropping off moose at the same time. I imagine they will be full fairly quickly.
